Long grained , brown and wild rice .

No Kevin, nubile girls feed horses. Where have you been?

I would be surprised if rice is cheaper than oatmeal. I haven't done a cost comparison.

I like both. But if I was packing up a mountain, I think I would take oatmeal because it's lighter and more volume filling. A cup of oatmeal with about 1-1/2 cups of water seems to expand to about 3 or 4 cups. Then add some other stuff (such as wild apples, if you can find them, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries) and everything else you can find to make oatmeal taste like something other than gruel. But it will stick to you! I'm constantly experimenting with it to see what I can add next...just like you guys are experimenting with rice and ramen noodles. If there's something new and good to eat, I'm there ;) in the kitchen or on the trail.

And why can't you put molasses on rice? Now I'm hungry, gotta try it.

Actually I am pretty sure Y'all could do a lot with molasses and rice . Including making some tasty alcohol .

I guess cost would be more an issue of how large a package you are used to buying . I usually buy rice in large amounts and oats in small amounts .

I also usually buy the instant sugar papped kind which must add substantially to the cost . I like oatmeal once in a while . I,m more of a baked beans kind of guy . In fact I think I will fart (oops) I meant start a thread about that . Sorry about that mistake . I really let that one go .
