Long Live the BOSS Jack!

Boss Jack Proto: Probably my favorite Busse.
The only knife I ever bought from LK. :barf:

I really love this one. I think we should do a picture thread of BOSS Jacks as a swan song.

If there's a better way to display pics please let me know. It's my first time using the new BFC feature.
Beautiful blades!
Upload your pics to Photobucket. Then when you are looking at the pic move the cursor over the pic to activate the drop down. Click on the bottom one which says IMG Code. This will copy the link and all you have to do is paste it right into the text box..

Sorry I don't have a BOSS Jack yet so these will have to do...just for illustrative purposes...

These have moved on, but since tonight is Alaskaganzaaaa, here are the first two protos from when they first were offered in a ganza last year in DC/Black Canvas.

Yup, long live the BOSS Jack!

It makes me regret passing on all of the protos with fullers. :o

LVC, I'll see if I can work on that comparison tomorrow. :)

is there any way you could do something like this for the three blades? It does require either a micrometer or a set of calipers. I used excell, but you could use microsoft wordpad if nothing else. I limited mine to 1" because thats as far as I can safely get with my calipers. If not, awesome pics :D

Knife stats.PNG

Here are your stats. Pretty interesting. I'm surprised that my satin proto (PB&J) and CG BJ are so close--with the production model being thicker, if only slightly with its coating, all the way through. The numbers speak for themselves. i.e. The BJ LE is hot. :D

That's exactly what I was looking for :D

I wanted to see if other peoples Proto's were roughly the same as mine, how the CG compared to the proto (if it was actually a flatter convex), and also how the LE compared to my 1/8" custom, as well as how they compared to the CABS at the initial edge.

Turns out that the proto's are pretty consistent (mine is almost identical to yours, the differences are most likely where I'm measuring from (1/64" off from exactly 1/4" or 1/2"). The CG is substantially thicker at every single point, which surprises me because a lot of people complained about how thick the Proto was. At 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 1" the differences between your proto and cg go: .010, .017, .015, .008, .005. Since their almost identical at the spine that tells me that the CG gets thicker at the 1/4" mark and slowly comes back into line until it's at the spine. Even if the edge has a 'flatter convex edge technology' or whatever you'd like to call it, it is thicker at the edge and stays that way (albeit diminishing towards the spine).

It's also good to see that the LE has better geometry, though not quite as 'better' as I had hoped. The 1/8" version I have was kind of meant to be an elongated CABS, but turned out to be more of a thinner LE BOSS Jack. The cabs edge started at .025" instead of .034, and kept a flat full height grind resulting in a much much thinner overall geometry.

(the 1/8" mark on my proto is thinner because I have a flat relief bevel on it with an edgepro. Everything above that is stock)

Thanks for going through the trouble of gather the info and posting it :D

what do you guys think is the best version?? proto,cg or le.
i have a cg and le,im leaning toward the le.

I only have the proto and the 1/8" custom shop, but the proto is the one I will likely keep forever/never sell. It's perfect for what it is. For slicing the grind is a bit thick, but having put a heavy relief grind on it it does well enough to stay on my belt, and it's weight, balance, and ability to chop are all excellent as an overall package. There is absolutely no reason for me to want a thicker knife, so the CG isn't worth buying on top of the proto to try out. Jerry had said they would be using a flatter convex edge, but apparently he just meant the edge itself and not the main grind.

As to the LE, I don't know as I don't have one, but the 1/8" I have just doesn't cry out "perfect" to me. It's an awesome knife, but I want the edge and the grind to be thinner. As it is it can't chop and it's not quite as thin a slicer as I'm looking for, it exists in that in between grey area where knives get bought and sold regularly.

So for me, I'll be sticking with the PROTO and looking forward to the 62-63rc INFI blades Busse will hopefully be coming out with, and hopefully that includes a 5.5" CABS edition.
