We started this as sort of a side discussion on the second page of the thread I posted documenting the development of a natural patina on my Ben Hogan.

I thought it would be good to have a thread specifically dedicated to long pulls on blades. There is something about a long pull on old carbon steel that I find appealing.

Here are the ones I have currently:

Next is a wider shot showing the knives in their entirety. From top to bottom they are:

Schrade Walden 708Y serpentine jack
Craftsman (Schrade) 9473 small stockman
Böker Tree Brand 493 barlow
Northfield UN-X-LD 65 Ben Hogan
Camillus jack
Sears Craftsman (Camillus) 95041 peanut

The only thing better than a long pull......................matchstrike long pull.:)

The pulls on the tools are actually about the same length as the one on the main blade of the Imperial jack I posted. It's just a hair under Peanut sized. When you consider the length of the pulls relative to the length of the blade/implements, I guess they are long in that sense.

There are only a couple things that I don't like about long pulls. The first is when they go all the way through the tang. I know it's traditional and often found in old knives, but it just looks weird to me for some reason. The other is when used in conjuction with nail nicks. One or the other please, not both.

A beautiful long pull looks great with dressy bolsters.

And look at how the long pull sets off this deep swedge.

Usually long pulls are on master blades, with just nicks on secondaries, but this RR is opposite.

A proper match striker long pull below the swedge, not in it (ugh!).

Double long pulls, behind the swedges.

Nice collection!

Since the rescaling of my old Colonial barlow is nearing completion, I will soon have another to add to the family picture.

Here's a peek at it I received in an email last night:

Some gorgeous old knives Vanguard, and that red Weaver jack -- just beautiful! I love seeing every picture you post of it.
