• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Long pulls

^^^^ that Hammer Brand skinner looks great, I have found that Hammer Brand knives take an amazing edge.

Here's three old German knives with nice thin long pulls. The whittler scales were perfect until I dropped it.

Best regards

It happens, good thing it didn't break into pieces.
Pretty knives, by the way. Who made the whittler?

The only congress I like, Wester bros. Germany. Even though a piece of the scale is missing everything else is sound and quite nice.

Very interesting Congress indeed this one. Sleek and shows a lot of fine workmanship. Kind of Senator/ Equal End with bolsters similar to a Remington from the mid 20s I have. So much nicer than the usual rather lumpish square bolstered Congress with short blades, curved back and duplicate blades. Are those sunk-joints? Could you state the size and approx age please? Impressed!

Regards, Will

I can get you on the size later but it was made between 1902 and 1967, definitely made earlier in that time frame.

If it has long pulls, a punch and some bolster treatment I find it almost compulsive to make it mine!
Here are the long pulls I could find:

A pair of Imperials (I found the all metal one for a dollar last weekend, it's the smallest punch I own, I modified the rounded tip into a wharncliffe; the plastic handled one drew me solely because the secondary blade is the only one with long pull- the only time I've seen that in my limited slipjoint collecting, the others have all had a master with long pull if any):

Kuhn that I found with broken master and horrid scales that I tried to remedy, with my first attempt at a long pull (before I really knew what to do) and a unique Kissing crane (again with a broken tip I turned into a wharncliffe) as it has 2 Spey blades as secondary. This knife was run over by something heavy as the master end is twisted, but still snaps open and closed with no blade play.

As I have next to no extra fingernail length due to being a massage therapist I find the long pulls easier to access and utilize, and to me generally looks better.
