Long term Bic storage.

From the smoking point of view, I switched to a Bic after the first time I used one. After I used the Bic I realized that I had been tasting lighter fluid in every cigarette I had ever smoked. The Bic didn't leave any extra taste. And as others have already stated the Bic disappears in the pocket.

I love the zippo lighters, but they run out of fuel too quick.

You can't beat a Bic.

I have a small peanut lighter and its seems to work good after 4 months so far without drying out. I think because it has that o-ring that keeps it semi air tight. I'm going to see how long it will last without drying out.

I like both Bics and Zippos - they both fill a niche. A Bic is inexpensive and pretty reliable. BTW, they have cases for mini Bics that prevent the plunger from being 'plunged' :o (top right)

What I like about the Zippos is you can set them down and they continue to burn. Also I find them more dependable in cold weather. Sure, you can keep a Bic under your armpit, but I prefer the Zippo in the winter. It also may be a bit more difficult to lose  However, that's not to say that I wouldn't also have a Bic or two.

I've also had very good luck using a Ranger band around the joint of the Zippo, and I don't consider it a big deal to carry a small can of fuel in my pack, but YMMV.

Used to really like Zippos (still do, actually), but gave them up in Vietnam because they could be smelled quite a distance away. Used matches from then on, until I got my hands on a Bic. Oh, Glorious Day! It was (and is) everything a lighter should be. I still have a Zippo or two in one of my drawers, but haven't used them in many, many years. They're just nostalgia items now.

I have 3 or 4 Zippos that have been languishing here since i started using peanut lighters.
I just ordered one of those zplus butane Zippo inserts to try out so maybe i'll start using the Zippos again.

Here's my piece of advice.

Hair ties, if you have a wife or girl friend or daughters it's even easier.

Take a hair tie (the ones with the crimped metal tubes holding them together work a bit better) and wrap it around the bottom side of the plunger

this will keep the plunger from being plunged, light weight, reliable, and easy!

Ok i'll bite...why should we never use a white Bic lighter?

...everyone i have ever known who used white bics was arrested within a day- for traffic violations and such. Bad mojo=police. I'm surprised you havent heard, its all over va:D:thumbup:

Smoke safely

Huh???
I've only used white Bics thus far, for many many years.
Is this a joke? or am I still drowsy so early in the morning.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but a little trick for a Bic is to use an o-ring under the lever to keep it from getting depressed accidently while in a pocket or kit:

Rolls out of the way easily when you need to use it, and rolls back when you're done. Won't help if it has a leaky valve, but those are rare from what I've seen. The Bic sparker throws off a good shower too, so if it does run out of fuel just pry off the metal shroud and use it just like the popular Sparklite fire starter.

I've even found bics on the side of the road that were coaxed into flame by heating them up, rubbing briskly on the pants leg or between hands. I normally have at least 2 on me. I've heard that the flints will dissolve after long exposure to water but a wrap of wax paper and a hairband has always worked for me. The cheaper square bodied brand are crap IMHO..I've seen lots that wont light even when clearly full of fuel. Stay with real Bic brand and its all good. best to all. anrkst
