Long term blade care

I was just curious about how some of you give "long term care" for your knives. For example, long term storage; what is a good overall lube/coating to use and how often do you wipe down your blades/knives and with what. I store mine in a safe and in the open position, and am just looking to better protect the knives for the long haul. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I normally keep mine in the sock drawer. Put them in clean and dry (knives and socks both) and have never had a problem. Some do not get any periodic care and others only get oiled/cleaned if I have been using them. Some are stainless and some are carbon and none have rusted well stored. May want to keep a desicant in the safe and leave a thin coat of oil or use a Tuf-cloth if you are the paranoid type.

It is not the fall that kills you. It is the realization that "yes, you did something that stupid."

For knife care, use Tuf-Cloth and Tuf-Glide--your knives will be clean, smooth, and protected. As for Tuf-Glide, 1 or 2 drops goes a long way. Tuf-Cloth use depends on how often you use your knives.
