I am making my second knife, which is a hidden tang fighter, and I was wondering if i should silver solder the stainless guard to the blade. It makes it look nice, but will you notice it after the blade has a patina? (It is a non-stainless blade)

thanks!

The stainless solder [like a 95Sn-5AG] wiil remain shiney just like the stainless guard ! Proper gap for soldering and brazing is .003" so there won't be much to see !

ok, great! this will be fun. now i just have to find a way to file perfectly square shoulders on the blade.

Keep your shoulders even and flat but make sure you radius from the shoulder to the tang. You don't want a square corner there!!

i didnt radius the corner, but i kept the tang quite wide, 3/4 of an inch. I am going to sandwich it between slotted 1/2" micarta. I will post pics when im done.
