Long Term Storing

Hey guys,
I just got my first knife, the black full size KA BAR. I read in the small booklet bout storing it for long term. It said that I should apply some mineral oil on the blade and keep it inside the cardboard sleeve which was together with the knife. Unfortunately, I've threw the sleeve away before I read the booklet. I wonder if it'll be fine if I just keep the knife inside its plastic sheath? Please help.

For short term, it will be fine with a light coating of oil in the plastic sheath. For LONG term, I'd probably give it a coat of wax to protect the steel, and leave it out of the sheath. There's no magic to the cardboard blade covers - they're simple to make. (Also - the black coating helps protect it as well...I don't really worry too much about coated blades until the coating starts to wear.)
