It's been a long time coming but I finally took the plunge and ordered a new grinder a few days back. Decided to go with the KMG variable speed package that includes both the flat platen and 10 inch wheel. Beaumont was great to deal with and the grinder arrived in under five days in three boxes. I haven't set it up yet, need to make some room in the shop and purchase a good correctly sized table for the grinder.
My old grinder was purchased from an estate sell from down in Florida. While a good solid 2X72 machine I converted it from a single speed (fast) grinder dedicated to hollow grinding to a dual flat platen/wheel machine with a variable speed DC motor. It has served its purpose and allowed me to learn how to free hand (no tool rest)grind while making many knives. It would make someone a very good starter grinder if your close enough to NC zip code 27288 to pick up for a very reasonable price.

Anyhow here is soon to be dedicated shop grinder.

That's awesome Joe .. I have the KMG Variable speed as well. I had a Wilton Square Wheel and a Coote before the KMG so it was a great decision on my part to get a Variable speed . I only have a 8 inch wheel and a four inch right now but plan to get a 10 or a 12 not sure yet. I added the small wheel attachment and made a slack set up with spaced out wheels sort of like a poor mans rotary set up from KMG . Good luck and thanks for sharing.

Congratulations!
I'm hoping things go well enough for me the next couple months that I can put up the same post!

Chris
