Long time EDC's

Unlike many on this forum I am not one to purchase knives as users. I am happy to admire new pieces for their workmanship and beauty.
I do have one EDC that has been with me for a number of decades, and is the only knife I carry. It is "only" an Imperial, but it has become a very good friend. I am very comfortable with the feel in my pocket, its shaving sharp edge, perfect pull and pleasing snap, even after all the use it has seen.
It would love to see some of the knives that have been long time EDC's for some of you.

Decades? I haven't carried a single knife that long, having only discovered slipjoints 15 or so years ago. This is my longest term EDC at five-plus years.

It was a literal EDC for the first three years, going into my pocket each and every day. The past couple of years it's been more of a primary carry, supplemented here and there by different knives whenever I felt the need for variety.

It's better now than when it was new. Sharper, and smoother as well.

Christian

P.S. Mr. Loerchner you make wonderfully crafted knives.

I love that pattern. The stag on this one is fantastic.

Thank you for the compliment Christian, but I am no mister, just Wolfgang.

Longest EDC for me was an SAK Huntsman, now lost overboard in Ocracoke Harbor since 1985. That was my only folder from 1977 to 1985. Then carried an Opinel N°10 for several years. Over the last several years I've been mixing it up and bringing fixed blades into play.

Carried this one for years:

Also carried several other similar sized knives for several years at a time. But in the last year, decided to go with something a little nicer and a little larger. Discovered BladeForums, and buying too many knives now!

4 blade Camp/Scout pattern since 1961.
(Not the same knife though)
Barlow to keep the Scout company in my pocket from 1965 to roughly 2003.
A Sockman has been sharing pocket space with the Scout pretty much every day since.
(I have one ... make that two ... Imperial Barlow's like yours. One Prov RI the other Ireland. A couple other Barlows's find their way into my pocket, too.)
Buck 110 or Old Timer 7OT/6OT on my belt since ... 1968? ... 1969? I know I got my first one when I was in what was then called "Junior High" (known as "Middle School" these days.)
SAK Huntsman since ... 2001? 2002? My then employer gave me a Huntsman and Signature set for Christmas that year.
It takes turns with the Scout for pocket time.
The Signature has been on my keyring since I got it. Comes in handy when me pen goes AWOL or dies.

I carried this Case 6347 Stainless from August 1973 everyday until sometime in the middle 1990's. These were sort of hard to find so I bought the only two my local hardware store had. The other one is still mint in one of my rolls. ;) I bought and owned many others during this time. Back then I never thought about or even heard of an EDC rotation. I would buy new ones and they would go into the roll not the pocket. :D

My grandma gave me this Buck 301, I think in December 1972, but I know I was carrying it my Senior year in HS (72-73). I carried it nearly everyday until she passed away (1989), when I cleaned it and put it back in the original box. I pull it out every now and then and carry it for memory's sake - but I'd dearly hate to lose it or break it, so it's babied and stays home most of the time. OH

Little different situation for me as a maker. I tend to carry prototypes and history seems like I carry em about 3 years or so. This is my Vaquero Ultralite model. I carried mine daily, as a prototype, for about 3 years and never found it wanting, or wishing I had a bigger knife (5.25" oal).

It didn't take long to realize I was onto something right with this design and started making them pretty quickly there after for sale.

Mine close to retirement out at the ranch. It's been used to castrate calves, check steaks on the grill, doctor cows, open hay bales, feed sacks, packages and everything else ya'd need an edc to do.

This is my current EDC prototype I'm carrying. Its a variation of an already existing design one of my Stainless Gordos:

The differences here between this one and my standard ones are that this one is hollow ground and its made from A2 instead of my normal AEB-L. I'll be retiring this one soon now after 3 or so years. This design is better as a full flat grind and while A2 is a superb steel for a larger hunting type knife, it doesn't bring anything extra to the table on this size a knife (5 3/8" oal). I'm gonna replace this one soon with something else. Probably gonna make me a Gordo, regular flat ground, out of Damasteel but we'll see. Here its playing prop in this holster pic:

There ya can see it on my belt as I'm waiting for Salty to finish castrating this calf before I brand it.

I've had this Moore Maker trapper since 1998. I use to carry it as well as a fixed blade but kinda quit as my small fixed blades did everything this one could and this one didn't do anything they didn't. However it stills see service when we have to leave our mountains and go down to the big city. This is seldom, maybe twice a year. Some of those big cites don't like to see belt knives, even small ones. This trapper lives in its buckaroo pouch which is the best thing since sliced bread:

Believe it or not, I did not carry a knife regularly until the last 20 years or so. As a tradesman, I would carry a splicing knife on my belt, cause that's what I needed.

However, having got more into pocketknives in the last 15 years, I always carry everyday now. This pearl Schrade whittler, pictured at the top, is one I have carried off and on for the longest. The blade was tipped when I got it, so I turned it into a pseudo-lambfoot blade.

I have so many fine EDC's now, it's hard to carry them all, but I do enjoy slipping that one in the pocket.
