I have been a BF member since the beginnig and love Syderco knives. But after all these years i have to say i hate VG10. I love their version of Aus 8, 440V and S30V but have found V10 to chip and hold the pourest edge of any Spydie steel I have ever used. I have tried it in their Endura and CENTOFANTE3 amoung others it simply sucks. Used a sharpmaker at 30% as well as 40% with the same results. I know Im probably one of the few with these results but had to share my experience. Still think Spyderco makes the best the factory knives though.

Weird. I myself love VG10. I like it better than S30V. Ive dropped it on concrete and not had it chip. To each hos own and it really comes down too what works best for you.

Hate is a strong word, but i haven't had the greatest time with it. I have had poor edge retention on my delica and enduras. I much prefer 154cm (for knives with same general price points)

Factory tests aside, steel preferences seem to be exceedingly personal, so I can't hold it against you. Personally, I'm frequently underwhelmed by S30V and I love D2 and CPM-D2, but many seem to disdain both steels. One of the wonderful things about Spyderco is that they frequently give you multiple options. Don't like the Endura in VG-10? Get one in ZDP-189. I got rid of my Para 2 because I don't care for S30V, but I just ordered one in M390 because I loved everything else about the knife.

I love me some VG-10, and 154 cm. I guess everyone is different, good thing they make a bunch of knives :D

I've got mad love for VG10, I was hacking off some lower branches on a Christmas tree this year and instead of one of my "work" knives I was only carrying my Temperance, it took off the limbs with ease and I smacked the blade in the ground several times, no chips, no rolls, This was after I took the edge to a more acute angle than factory. I think the knife I have is pretty good but I have a history of getting "cherries" instead of "lemons".

I dropped VG-10 and CPM S30V on concrete and both chipped. But i prefer VG-10 because i like the blade's finishing better

I'm not a fan of VG-10 either. There are several Japanese made Spyderco knives that I haven't bought because of the VG-10 (Balance & DiAlex Jr just to name 2 off the top of my head). In my experience it's not nearly as good as 154cm.

I dont know. This is what zknives.com has to say about it.

VG-10 can be thought of as being like ATS-34 and 154-CM, but doing just about everything a hair better. It's a little more stain resistant, tougher, holds an edge a little better. And VG-10 has vanadium in it, it's fine-grained and takes the best edge of this group. But like all steels, as zknives will also state. It comes down to your uses with the steel. For my uses I love it. YMMV.

I don't like VG10 as well. I find I have a hard time getting it sharp, when I can get other steels sharp just fine. Oh well.

I love it, in my top five favorite steels. Never had a problem getting it sharp or with chipping. I am not a fan of S30V, its ok in my book, but I like hair splitting sharp and S30V just doesn't seem to want to hold it for long and it is hard to get it that sharp in the first place compared to VG-10 or 154CM or Sadvic anything.

I too am not crazy about VG-10 on Spydercos. My Endura never seemed to stay sharp for long. Spyderco's S30V may lose the hair splitting edge quick but retains a working sharp edge for a long time.
