Hi everyone, I joined the forum way back in 2010 but I'm just now posting and hope to be active here. I've always loved and been fascinated by knives. Years ago I struggled with knife sharpening and started doing lots of research on the subject. I eventually got fairly good at sharpening and started sharpening knives for others. This led to an even greater interest in knives but more so why some stayed sharp much longer than others. After years of frustration at the poor quality I was getting at the time from most factory knives I decided to give making a knife a try. After making my first I was addicted to knife making and began to study and research every aspect of it I could. I had a tool I designed and made for Rockwell hardness testing and a couple of mentions in Blade Magazine, then one of my knives in Wayne Goddard's latest book and I was ready to conquer the world of knife making. LOL Well that's when I had an accident that changed my whole world. I was left disabled and no longer able to make knives. I was so frustrated and depressed that I could no longer make knives that I quit even looking at or buying knives. Hence my long time membership but no activity. About a year ago I joined the BCUSA forum though and started seeing a bunch of knives and got me back interested in them again even though I can no longer make them. A friend there on BCUSA after seeing a knife I'm doing some minor mods on encouraged me to get active here so here I am. :- )

If you'd like to know any more about me feel free to ask. Hope to learn a lot and be of help if I can.

What kind of accident? What knives were you making? What styles/things are you most interested in?

always good to have more knowledge and experience around. Even if you can't make things yourself, a designers mind is always valuable.

Glad your here, ready to add to the great pool of knowledge and experience that is such a help to learners like me. Welcome!

Somehow you have to roll with life's little (or big) punches and move to the next thing. Welcome back.

Severe electrical shock to the head, I'm a licensed electrician. It damaged the area of my brain that controls sleep causing me to have narcolepsy as well as some other issues. Hunting/skinning knives and tactical, all fixed blades. I like them all. :-)

I noticed there's no thanks button here but thank you all!

As men, we have to work with our hands. That, no doubt gives us the most satisfaction and sense of accomplishment.
One can understand your level of feeling depressed and frustrated.
It's good to see you getting involved again behind the scenes, to bring your knowledge here and be able to help educate those that are needing help.
Sometimes, you get the same level of accomplishment by passing on your knowledge and knowing you've helped someone that feels the same frustration as you've experienced.

That's very true. I've been able to share a little knowledge on BCUSA to a few guys wanting to get into knife making or wanting to mod a knife and it does my heart good to be able to help. I've been out of the loop so long now lot's of stuff has changed though! It's took a few years to get over not being able to make knives any longer, I truly loved it and for a long time I didn't even look at knives, but I'm getting there. There are numerous makers over on BCUSA that I enjoy watching their work and I'm sure some of them are members here.

Can't imagine how depressed, pissed off and frustrated your accident left you, but your alive and have your wits about you. Good first step is being active here. You've got lots to offer! You'll find new ways to be involved and receive satisfaction. Glad to have you here and participating. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Mike! I don't know if anyone understands or not but for a long time it hurt to even look at knives because I was so frustrated that I couldn't make them anymore. They say time heals all wounds though. I'm glad to be here and very thankful for the warm welcome! I've always loved helping others and If I can offer any help to anyone here I'm happy to do so.

PS. Keep in mind I'm working with a fried brain! ;-)

Welcome back!
Glad you're getting your passion back,,, it's still fun collecting and admiring

I'm sorry to hear that. Welcome back! Do you have any examples of knives you've made to post?

Welcome back. Sorry to hear about your accident. Perhaps you can use your experience to help other makers and get some enjoyment from that.

Thanks for all the kind words and warm welcome guys!!!

I do though they are nothing fancy. I wouldn't mind posting them at all but since I use to sell them I don't want to violate any forum rules by doing so. Being new I haven't learned the ropes yet on what's allowed and the last thing I want to do is cause any problems or get myself in trouble.

Thanks! It sure feels good to be getting that passion back. For a long time I even dreaded/put off sharpening my knife as it just made my want to make one. I'm learning to deal with and accept my limitations. When I started modding the BK9 it brought a sparkle back!
