mark-- you can check out.. www.3riversarchery.com they're like the cabelas of traditional archery goods...

ebay is also a good source...

www.tradgang.com also has a really cool classified section... :)

all of the bows i shoot are custom made... made to my specs.. there are a lot of awesome custom bowyers out there these days... you can do a google search for "custom longbows", there are tons...

My father and a friend make their own bows. They're beautiful and shoot great. I personally prefer recurves by just a little bit. My father's current longbow is primarily osage with roughed laminate look.

my main longbow that i shoot was made by a CA. bowyer named steve abbott.. it is actually fairly short compared to most longbows, it is 58 in. long and draws 47#.. it is a sweet little shooter... steve makes one of the best custom bows for the $$$... unfortunately he doesn't have a website... i have his contact info. if you're interested...

I shoot recurves, nothing fancy just old school recurves.

Hey Mike, what do you do to improve your pull strength.
I just got this massive recurve and I can only hold it back for a few seconds.

I make bows, ok well i have made a bow and am making my second one right now. I am jazzed about the The Traditional Bowyer's Bible, Volume 4 coming out, will be ordering when i get the money.

Heres a pic of my first one, was not done making it at the time, but you get the idea. Its a redwood bow, about 66 inchs n/n, 32 draw weight(intended), 1.5 inch width to 3/4 tips. Took a set of about 2 or 3 inches, i did not have a moister meter so i think the wood still was too moist.

I am making a second one with a 2.5 inch wide to 1/4, in a pyramid design with hickory. Waiting for money to come in so i can get a moister meter, have it shaped and rough tillered already. Looking to hunt with this bow if it comes out nice. Draw weight will be about 45-50

Also making a war bow for a friend draw weight will be 110 or there abouts, so it will be a weak war bow but good enough.

ok just ran out and took the pic, i dont know why its turned on my comp it looks fine, would try and fix it but i have to run to school. The hickory one, look taller then it will be becuase i left on about 2 inchs on each limb at the end, to protect it from getting knocked about

Some beautiful equipment there, bikemikearchery.

I, too, have been making all of my own archery equipment for a number of years. Currently, I seem to make and shoot mostly variations on the flatbow. Though, I have a traditional yew English longbow, made by John Strunk, that I really enjoy shooting.

There is a host of fine longbow makers to be found. Purchase a copy of Traditional Archer or Primitive Archery magazines for a list to keep you busy for some time. :)

That is a great looking Penobscot there! I salute your work!

I had Dan Toelke make me a Whip longbow last year fitted special for a slightly deformed thumb on my off hand. A custom bowyer is worth his weight in gold...
