Longest Carry

There seems to be weekly threads regarding what people are carrying. Because many of us are knife nuts, what we carry tends to change as we purchase the coolest new stuff. I have lately been wondering what people have been carrying the longest. I'm talking reliable knives that are used daily for several months, and perhaps years.

My longest carry was a military issue SAK that I found on the road when I lived in Switzerland. It is the kind that has checkered aluminum scales, can opener, bottle opener, hole punch, and a main blade. Blade year is 1971. This is one reliable knife that I carried for years. Though I have several dozen knives, I have not carried any of them as long as this one.

If possible, leave keychain knives(Micra, etc.)out:)

Thanks for the input.

I've carried and used hard this old model Endura. I think I've carried it about 10 years. I got the knife when they first came out with the Black Ti finish. Its started out as a full serrated model but after much abuse and hundreds of sharpenings I did alittle blade profileing. I'm no longer a commerical fisherman and I just didn't need the serrations any longer. It's been a good hard use knife.

The knife I own that holds the EDC record is the Bucklite I carried all through college, complete with One-Armed Bandit aftermarket thumb stud. I toted that blade long before I'd ever heard of Spyderco (an Endura was my first true one-hander). And I figured the Bandit was cheating; I had a redneck friend from Ohio who taught me how to snap the knife open using only wrist action.

I had a little Ka-Bar folder I received as a gift in gradeschool. I don't remember exactly when I got it, but I did carry it every single day 6th-12th. Once I got a "real job" I started buying other knives and rotated through them. Still doing that today.

I can't honestly say that I've carried any single knife for more than a few years. However, I have been consistent in more general terms. I have carried a high-end model of Victorinox SAK since college (more than 20 years). I don't even remember what model I first had, but I eventually ended up with a Champion, then SwissChamp, and now the SwissChamp XLT.

I probably have carried my Stainless Steel Spyderco Delica plain edge and Leatherman Super Tool the longest of any knives I have owned. My serrated Native is a close second. I keep going back to these. :D

Been carrying my BM Leopard for I guess 8 or 9 years now. Just stripped the black off the handle and will be re-anodizing it shortly. Thinking about retiring it, but not sure what knife to get next. BTW that was the last time a bought a factory folder :).

The knife I have carried, and used the most is my Spyderco Merlin.
You almost forget you have it cause of it's light weight.
That baby is sitting in a nice retirement community in Boca Raton, I think the name of the place is Del Boca Vista, any ways it is great shuffle board in the morning and aquarobics for noon time:D

8 years ago I bought two Spyderco Endura's and two Spyderco Delica's from a buddy that was starting a knife resell business.

One of each was fully serrated, the other was 50/50.

I gave away the fully serrated Delica when it got pretty worn, and I lost the fully serrated Endura somewhere over the years.

The 50/50 Delica has been retired to my truck's tool box, and the 50/50 Endura is my daily carry...

All of these knives were used hard, hard, hard over the years...and I'll be buying more old stock Spyderco when these two "die."

Mind you, 8+ years, 365 days a year, somewhere close to 3000 days, and I paid $120 for the four back then...hmmm, what's that work out too, a dollar a month...less than a nickel a day...for a daily hard use knife?

Can't be beat in my book! :D

btw, I think the fully serrated versions of the old style models were the best.

I no longer carry it, but I have a Gerber LUS that I carried for 12-15 years. I have no memories of exactly when/where I bought it. Pretty sure I was carrying it when my 19-yr-old son was born.

Haven't carried it for at least 2 years. It now sits open on my PC stand, ready to skin apples and oranges. Really gummed up, but I know it will clean up to where it looks almost like new.

I carried my Schrade Uncle Henry Premium Stockman, 897UH for about 10 or 12 years. I just pulled it out of the "old" knife box. Still looks good. May carry it for awhile for nostalgia's sake.

Case peanut (20+ years), Case Trapper (20+ years) and Victorinox - SAK Spartan (16 years).

I carried a green Spyderco Rescue on and off duty almost around the clock for several years until giving it to a good friend. Since I rotate almost daily now, I doubt that I will ever beat that mark.:D

The spyderco Matriarch has not left my pocket since I bought it, except the time it made run off this bloody aggressor, but that is another story.:D
It is for sure my longest carry as I rotate a lot...

I carried a military all stainless steel camp knife, Camillus made, from 1966 until I wore it out
in 1998. That knife was me with the whole time I was in S.E. Asia 'till 1998. Had to retire it
as it got so loose. Gosh, I miss that knife. It has since been replace by a Buck, Camillus
made,307 stockman & a supertool.

I have a little SAK my Mother gave me as a gift probably 20 years ago. Have a couple more of those that I picked up from sales/vendor types.

Grandpa gave me a Buck 110 back in the 1970's. He bought off some wino for $2, gave it to me somewhere between age 10-12 or thereabouts, but I never really carried it much after I got my Eagle Scout back in 1979.

Recent history, and what got me "into" knives in a big way around 1996: Benchmade AFCK 812 and 800, still have both. Both part serrated and BlackT, and both seem to have a different heat treat than more recent Benchmade's... sharpen easier, get a toothier edge. Dunno why. Hold an edge as well or better, I think (not a controlled test).

First custom tactical folder was a Dave Broadwell LDC-107. Great knife. Still love it. That really opened the door for me.

I have carried the ironwood inlaid large Sebenza that I picked up at the Blade Show in June ever since I got it. For me that is a very
l-o-n-g time for a single knife! The thing about it is, I haven't gotten tired of it yet. I am now thinking that the only thing that would replace it would be another woody!
