Lonnie Hansen Hawk

Beautiful work! I also like that turquois/damascus hawk on his website.

Are you going to be using it or is it primarily a collector?

I always feel honored when someone purchase's one of my works. I truly thank your support of the kraft and also for your kind post.
Lonnie

There must be a run on your hawks, Lonnie. I just bought this one from BladeGallery:

I live down in Bellevue, so we're virtually neighbors. What shows in the area do you attend?

Gabe

Thank you so very much Gabe!It seems sales run in spurts, lately I have had a lot of sales and am trying to keep my head above water. I will be at the Puyallup show on May 18. The show is actually on the 17 and 18 of May but I can only attend shows on Sundays so the 18 is the only day I will be there. Since most shows require makers to be set up for both Saturday and Sunday I am unable to attend other shows but the NWKC has really been extra kind in allowing me to attend Sunday only. I will present my first damascus spontoon hawk with inward curles at the show. I also plan on having several carbon hawks, forged from 52100, 51B60 and 1086M steel. I think I'm starting to ramble on so I'll sign off but before I do I want to say thank you once again Gabe and if you get a chance to make it in Puyallup on the 18 of May please stop and say hello and let me shake your hand.
Lonnie

I'll definitely see you at the show.

For people who haven't seen more of Lonnie's work, here's the one PTGDVC just picked up (I really like the accents on the head):

and here's one with really cool curly maple:

Mitch Lum had a picture of Lonnie in action:

As long as I'm starting the Lonnie Hansen Fan Club, here's a picture I hadn't seen before of a 13.5" fighter with a desert ironwood handle and titanium guard:

from one of my favorite collectors sites, Dick's Blades

That fighter is simply INCREDIBLE! The lines look sooooooo clean... wow. I too have spent a lot of time recently drooling over the hawks on Lonnie's website. Lonnie, the head pattern you do is my absolute favorite! That head with a small poll... perfect in my eyes. All I have is a hardware store axe and a hatchet thicker than syrup at the north pole!

I found a better picture of the fighter over at BladeGallery:

I didn't know Lonnie had a website. I can't find it using Google.

You guys are way to kind! I'm starting to turn red. I do have a web page with some of my early hawks. I do hope I am improving. Again everyone thank you so much for all your encourgement. My web address is www.lchansen.com

You hope you are improving? IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THIS!! You have a harmonious and bold moxture of colors and textures. Also, the lones on this hawk are soooo clean, I call them pure. Heck, I have to invent a new term for your hawks: pure-fect!

I'll trade you my sister for a damascus hawk, or a browned carbon hawk! She is real nice, and comes with a husband who knows his way around engines :)

A nice sister with a husband that knows engines, now that's what I'm talking about, unfortunately I could never afford to feed them and my wife seems to think that she is all I will ever need, go figure. And since she does all my braiding I got to keep her happy.
Lonnie

Lonnie,

by braiding, are you referring to the cord wrapped under the heads of your hawks?

Cool Lonnie! I make a knife called the Magic Knot Knife. My fiancee makes this cool cord for me, and I wrap that into a 1" wide, 1/8" deep channel that I grind into the handle- I love it that she makes the cords for me! That is neat that your wife is a part of your art too

I was going to post this in the gallery section but since some of you are part of the Lonnie Hansen fan club I'd figure I'll post this here.

Lonnie's Dragonslayer with a 7-3/4" forged Howard Clark 1086M blade with a nice hamon (HT by Mr. Hansen), Titanium tear drop guard and beautiful Ironwood handle (comfy as well), and nice drop leather sheath.

You can't go wrong dealing with Lonnie. Besides being a really nice guy, his fit and finish are at par or better than some of the Mastersmith pieces I own at half the cost. This is not the last piece I'll own from Lonnie, I've been drooling over his hawks for a long time and don't know anyone who makes them look as good as those pics show.

Take care,
Tom

(Sorry, can't make the pic show up except as an attachment)
