Well guys,
nice to jump from lurking with good news. (I think).
Look at something I just received from a brazilian knifemaker:
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1398636&a=10447034&p=35398992&Sequence=0&res=high
This beauty has a 4"3/16 long, 3/16 thick ATS34 blade; *heavy* brass with rosewood inserts handles; the latch doesn't get in the handles, which are the same size of the Jags. Mauricio Dobruski (the maker) told me he can make some of them fot around U$ 150!!! He are working to offer Jag's replacement brass handles.
Hope the image work and enjoy it.

The scan probably doesn't do the blade justice. I like the grind of the blade, but it seems to be long in the ricasso and have no kick. Or is it just the image.
Good looking knife!

Doubt is an uncomfortable condition,
but certainty is a ridiculous one.

Thanx!
She flips very well, comparing with Jags, with a heavy feel (I like it

)
Sorry for the poor scann, the finish is brushed. (Mauricio wants keep the low cost).
The recurve of the blade makes the ricasso work like a kick.

Count me in, I really like heavy handles.

Geraldo, is that the knife you were going to send me?

I guess Mr. Dobruski is going to be very very busy.

Yess!! Nice work, eh?

Mauricio is currently updating his web site to include an English version. He told me he can offer versions in almost all materials avaiable(sp?). Blade steels, diferents woods, and handle materials like titanium and stainless steel. The scan shows his first prototype, and I can assure you I'm liking it very much.

It's unmarked and even unsharpened but looks (and flips)like a winner.
View

This scan shows (poorly)a lateral view showing his ingenious solution for the latch lock.
His e-mail is: dobruski@convoy.com.br and his web sit adress (in Portuguese only until next week) is:

Thanks for the kind words.

Looking at it makes me lust after a nice HEAVY brass handled bali. I've been thinking about the good old days of brass handled bali's alot lately, I must be getting old.

Geraldo, should we e-mail him about getting something made, is he taking requests?

S. It's totally made from scratch. He's very good at the grinder.
Loki. I'm sure he will be happy answering your - and the other forumites - questions.

I am very excited... I just emailed the gentleman
smile.gif
I want one of these with white inserts and a WW2 blade with toothbrush inserts
tongue.gif
thanks for posting.. how does this compare in flipping comapred to say the manila folder or the Jaguar or the BM40 series?

boingboiung!! How did you discover this guy?

He also is very excited (I think he's practicing his English to jump on)
smile.gif

Well, I'm sure not an expert manipulator (my jg's pins lasts almost one month...) and I have never handled anything but jag's and cheappies.
Comparing with Jaguars, it's considerably heavier (of course) and smoothier (sp?); flips with a nice clac, clac instead the jag's ratle, ratle (very subjetive, I concede
smile.gif
) It has also almost no blade play.
I was at a shooting stand looking for a knife teacher and someone put aside his colt 44mag. and said - If you like knives, I know a very good young knifemaker who lives near here (100 Km)...(and I always listen to someone who has a 44mag). It happened 4 years ago and I think I'm almost having some success in convince him to have a try into the balisong world.
smile.gif

ENOUGH!!! ENOUGH!! Why won't he learn english quicker and email me back!
tongue.gif
must I learn uhm.. portugese (?) to get this knife?!!?
