Look at these degenerates, that Paul Letourneueuooo and his crony Matt Gregory, giving that poor hammer a prostate exam. Have they no shame? I think it's poor defenseless Mike spangler's too.

That hammer is still sitting in that condition under a big blue tarp in that same location. I'v got a friend working on a set of cushions for the helve, but I really need to get out there and start working on it it. Lots of bolts to free from years of neglect!!
This poor ol' girl is officially mine now, Sammy. She needs a lot to get in shape, but the important parts like bearings and such are smooth as glass.

yeah she's no longer my sweet little hammer.
she does need some loving though, and matt's just the boy to give an in animate object some loving alright.

i know i've made use of my end of the trade. matt is slacking though.

but i know in the long run he' ll be getting more use of that hammer than i ever would have. i couldn't stand the thought of it sitting neglected.

That's great to hear! what a hammer too. My boss had one but sold it like 6 months before I came! a 25 pounder. Do you have the contact info for the fella who does or used to do the new wooden beams? There was a recent thread in IFI about the rubber used for the cushions.

Nice hammer! I'm hoping to get a Bradley myself very soon.

What's the weight on that one?

40 pounder. This is one of the really old helve models that weren't guided helve designs. Date on it is 1909.

Sammy, my friend works for an aerospace company and is sampling the old rubber from the cushions on it, and pouring and turning me some new ones.

I planned on making my own helve out of ash or maple planks laminated together. We'll see...

You should use osage orange for the beam. :D

Matt you lucky bastard!
I am glad that hammer has been claimed by someone who will use and love it!

Hey Spangler, you coming to Ashokan?

Why, Phillip? You know someone that has some? ;):D

We'll see how far I get with this ol' girl.... just spent a couple hours with a wire cup wheel on the angle grinder to get some of the rust off the bolts and such, hoping the kroil penetrates a bit better now. Just bid on a 2.5" wrench on ebay for the jamb nuts. What the hell am I going to do with a 2.5" wrench? Probably weighs more than I do...

My Pudgy Lil' Buddy Mikey is slated to show up, but he usually gets whiney about three weeks before the show and has to be shamed into it from then on.

having eaten Mikey's cooking before he stopped talking to me I can see why he might be getting pudgy, that boy can cook!

If you don't get the wrench I may have a 2 1/2 inch socket left over from when I had a 4wd truck, let me know and I'll look

matt, more love my pudgyness

page, i'll be there man. sorry for not returning you call. i'll try to remember to shoot you some contact info for a salesman in NY. i can't do much unless you wanna drive to norton, ma to pick the stuff up

Matt, you need to bring that hammer over to my shop and let me fix it up, save yourself the trouble =D You can have visitation rights though !

Might want to double check the properties of the material Matt. I had a conversation with Ray Rybar some time ago about Bradleys (he has at least one of every model except one I think) and I recall him saying something about the specific properties of the rock maple used in the original helves that made them the primary choice.

Either way, good to see that another old hammer will be getting resurrected!
