Look at what the kamis gave me for Dasein. Could be a must for those with HIKV!

Dasein in Nepal is a bit like Christmas here in that it is an appropriate time to give gifts but look at this! We gave the kamis a few lousy dollars for Dasein and this is what they gave to me for my Dasein gift. It came today along with a shipment of khukuris as a complete surprise to me.

This plaque is 14 inches high and 12 inches wide and for kamis and sarkis doing the work of a sikarmi (carpenter or cabinet maker) they have done a great job. The gift shows thoughtfulness, kindness and an effort from shop personnel to stay "even" as best they can. My hat's off to the kamis and sarkis once again and I have already sent my most sincere thanks to them.

On the crass side, the kamis said if any customer wanted a near identical plaque they would make them one when they could find the time. Cost will be $150 for those HIKV sufferers who simply must have one.

When I say most cannot read or write you will probably believe me now if you look at the way they spelled "Himalayan". God bless them. They do the best they can.

Now thats neat! I'd say they idd an excelent job. As for the spelling, if you have noticed I'm not one to talk. It's truely a unique and wonderful gift. The Kamis must think highly of you. And if the can make a little extra off the deal by making more well more power to them, thats what they are there for to make a living. Just hope we all help to make that living a little better for them.

That's great Bill. Since I learned about HI about a year ago, I have learned so much. I have shown my children where Nepal is on our globe. And seeing my 15" AK makes it more of a real place to them.

You are a link to another world, and we all have benefitted from your service.

And a toast to the Kamis of Nepal!

That splendid plaque is testimony to your having accomplished an incredible feat, Uncle Bill: you have brought two worlds together, as Gregory pointed out. I would venture to guess that most HI forumites feel a special bond with Nepal and the kamis, though few of us have ever visited the country. Such is the mystique of the khukuri. And you're the catalyst that made it happen. Thank you.

Absolutely beautiful! I didn't even notice the misspelling until Bill pointed it out. I'm sure that many of us will be ordering one.

As I often tell you the kamis often surprise me in more ways than one. This gift was totally unexpected. I couldn't have asked for anything better. I love the kamis!

Many thanks for all the kind words, too. These are gifts, too, and very much appreciated.
