Here is a couple videos from the old industry days of chain making, very fascinating. I like the part with the one guy just welding the chain links one after the other, and then with the striker, then peening the BIG rivet with like 10 strikers. People complain about how a job flipping burgers is hard?

Always neat to see that ! An interesting mix, electric crane but hand hammered . Some of those hammers are like the Japanese ones with the handle at the end of the head.....Now if we could only get Sam to work that hard !!

My favourite parts wire the drop forging and the pedal hammer. Interesting to compare with modern chain making I watched on how its made.

That pedal hammer is known as an Oliver hammer, really cool tools!


Robert, it was very interesting, they use the powerhammer for welding up the bulk work but not the welding part, good to see they recognised the human touch for a critical operation such as welding together the parts. That or they're powerhammer operator guy sucked hehe. I like the unusual drop ram hammer, with the guys guiding it as it drops with the long handles.

Holey Moley. I don't think I would have lasted till lunch on one of those jobs. And that's in my prime. I probably would have been killed or killed someone myself in that hammer circle long before that.
