Look familiar? GEC #74 Saddle Trapper

I've always been a fan of the simple crescent nail nick, and i like the Northfield cover options on this one.
Guess I best save up some pennies for one of these guys.

I may be in the minority, but a single wharncliffe on this pattern would really do it for me.

I do like the idea of the clip blade with long pull in single-blade configuration. Now, if they could get a nic deep single groove at the end of the bolster, we'd have a cheaper "Lanny's Clip" style knife in carbon steel! :D

Really hoping that Ryan Daniels has some available at the Chesapeake Knife show. With that copperhead bone that was on the BF 2012 knife.

Nope. Saber grind with a crescent nail nick:

And a saber ground Wharncliffe, too:

Fortunately, they stayed with a crescent pull on the latter. The Northfield Halfwitt (#57) Wharncliffes have a long pull, which IMO, looks ridiculous.

I strongly agree. In fact, I think the Wharncliffe with a longpull looks frankly ugly. I have a suspicion that Wharncliffes in the past always bore a crescent and never longpull. I'm probably wrong about the history, but about the aesthetics I'm not...:D

Looking forward to a Tidioute HW soon.

That's precisely what I was thinking!

I believe you're right, both historically and aesthetically. I can't say that I've ever seen a single example of a long pull or a cut swedge on an antique Wharncliffe. GEC really needs to rethink those two attributes. I really wanted a Northfield Halfwitt for EDC purposes but the incongruous long pull sticks out like a gangrenous thumb. :(

I agree that the long pull on the #57 halfwhit was not the best looking blade GEC has come out with, but I think that the longpull on the Northfield #79 wharncliffe blade was well done (maybe due to the fact that it looks more like a sheepsfoot?)

I think it mostly depends on the aspect ratio of the blade. I have a copperlock with a long pull wharncliffe and it looks fine to me.

Ebony with a plain bar shield would be really nice. It's a great pattern. Now that I've got the edges where I want them there's not much stopping this knife from making a few others superfluous.

It's a "Sheepscliffe". I'll tell you though that no matter what you call that blade on the #79 it mixes J-B Weld well and scrapes hose flanges like nobody's business.

As to GEC's version of the 2012 Forum Knife, I'll pass.

ERF. I want to see one in 440C.

For those inquiring minds who want to know, "ERF" means "error Function"

And Friday night points for "inquiring minds want to know" source.
