Family has been keeping me pretty busy lately, and I found myself away from the house, with two not-so-sharp knives in my pocket!! The shame!! The agony!!
Of course I fixed that as soon as I got home!!:p
But I don't want that to happen again! And if I tell the truth, I am a fair-to-middlin' knife honer. Long-lasting edges need a pro as far as I am concerned, so, I gathered up a few knives that I like to carry and needed some attention, and I sent them to a good friend who sharpens knives as a service! When these five came back, I proceeded to test them on an old L.L.Bean catalog, making a bunch of confetti!!!:D Yowza!! I am now ready to cut anything, any time!!:)
And I can show off some of my favorite carrying cutlery!!;) My usuals; old Boiley, big'un LambFoot, and a couple of others are all ready and willing, but these guys like to get their outings also. Nothing finer than having some sharp knives for back-up and special occasions!!
Do you have a knife, or knives that you keep extra sharp for social or special events in your life??

HaHa, good stuff Charlie. I tend to keep a few extra sharp knives on hand just because, but I've also been known to be lazy and use 'em till they need attention. Then its time to decide on the old tried and true oil stones, or the diamond stones...decisions decisions. I'm not usually happy unless they will sing their way through the extra thin magazine paper without snagging .

BTW, VERY interesting looking Sardinian slip joint you have there! Took me a double take to see what was going on there:thumbsup:

I suspect you have much more patience than I do!!:D

If I'm carrying it, I want at least a "working edge" on it. ;)

What’s that horn blade you go there, Charlie? Looks like a rather smoking Pattada. That’s one knife that could be dull and would still look sharp.

Beautiful line up there Charlie! I see our taste in "user" knives are quite similar.;) But as fish hunter pointed out I don't see old boiley o_O
Next time you need an edge touched up or even re-profiled send em my way and I'll take care of you My Friend! :D
Every knife I carry has to be hair poppin sharp..... otherwise it's like carrying an empty gun..... not much use.:);)
But I do have a couple that I keep quite dull for certain tasks, like cleaning my fingernails. A sharp knife is not as good in that situation. :D

This is why I keep a credit card sized DMT diamond plate in my wallet;).

I'm also in the sharpen it as I need camp. I carry a double sided accusharp diamond sharpener in my left front pocket. The one a carry is almost worn out, with the medium grit side now more like fine and the fine side super fine. I usually won't sharpen my pocket knives on one when when its new. Unless I need to rebevel the edge. I find even the fine side more aggressive than I'd want for a touch up. So I'll use it to sharpen other tools until I feel its wore out enough for pocket knife duty. All my knives stay scary sharp.

I'm generally not satisfied with an edge unless it shaves. And I, too, have been negligent if mine! All my knives have working edges, and some are pretty keen, but none are sporting my edge. I actually need to pick up some new stones...15469642310133622872853106983271.jpg

I don't like sharpening knives. I can do it well enough, but sharpening is not a task I enjoy doing. It usually takes me a while to tune up an edge just the way I like.

Most of my knives are pretty sharp, my special occasion knives especially since they see limited, light duty. But my primary carry is probably the sharpest. Because I carry it near every day, I can tell whenever it needs a lick or two on the strop, or even a visit to a stone. I used an old G2 test to gauge its sharpness, push cut straight down through the corner of an old paperback book.

That'll do.

I recently bought a Sharpmaker so of course the first blade I sharpened was the one in my pocket.

It turned into a razor, quite possibly the sharpest knife I own. I was able to cut that nylon freehanging. I thought maybe it was fluke so I attempted it with a kitchen knife and failed miserably. Looks like I know what blade I’ll be sharpening next, haha.

This is a Klaas "fake" that I got on the auction site... even the German fake knives were quality built! :D:thumbsup: This is my favorite "sharp" that I always put an edge on when I am done using it so it is ready for the next task. ;) If you accidentally got your finger in the way of the closing snap on this one, you better start looking around on the floor for it

I try to keep all my users with a sharp working edge but if I'm out and about I use a Lansky 4-Rod Turn Box Ceramic Rod sharpener to keep a knife cutting. I keep one in the glove box of each of our vehicles. Of course, I carry more than one knife so, being caught out with a dull blade is not likely.

Christian - for the uninitiated, what's G2?

G2 is Gary W. Graley.

...she is not only sharp, but will push cut through leather like a champ, also went to the corner of our phone book and she pushed down through all the pages without as much as a wimper, just plowed right through, a good test of the primary bevel on about any knife.

...it just finished push cutting through this book, with little or no resistance. Try that with one of your knives, if they don't have a convex edge, or if they are very thin bladed, they will balk at attempting to push cut through a book.
