Look what came in the mail today....

Nice score!! I like that, I asked for a proxy on this in two threads and never received a response, I set aside enough for one for me and the other a gift for the one who helped me out, since this style I really really liked, but I had to get off to work and with 70 page views and zero responses I went and bought a stupid golf skycaddie to cheer me back up, any who looks great! have fun with it!

Finally finished the handle on my SAR5. I ended up going with "Coyote Brown" paracord. After being epoxied, it now looks like chocolate brown. Here are some pics, the first one is before I put the final wrapping on, and the last two are of the finished product. This handle is solid! I can't imagine how I would get it off now that the epoxy is cured. I believe that this is a permanent modification, lol.

I like the epoxy idea. I may do something similar with a Skeleton Warden.

It was fairly easy to do. The only problem I had was that I rushed and did both the bottom wrap and top wrap in one go. Next time I will do the bottom first, and let it dry before doing the top one. Reason being, is that it was a pain in the rear to get the last piece of paracord for the top wrap to tuck in nicely and the working time with the epoxy I used was quite a bit shorter than what was printed on the package. It is supposed to be 30 minutes, however it started to thicken up after about 12-15. Oh well, practice makes perfect! I just took a picture of the pretty side.:D On the other side you can see the last part of the under wrapping. Now I just need to make a sheath for this sucker!

Edit to add: If anyone is going to do this, once you pick out the color paracord you wish to use, soak it in water. This will give you an idea of what color it will turn out to be once you apply epoxy.

Very not bad!! :D:thumbup::thumbup: Thanxx for the pix, especially also the one of it without the handles. I was curious about what it looks like under there. :)

Looks good El Toro. Hows it feel in hand now?

IMO, it feels much better. The knife is not so handle heavy now and I prefer a thinner grip compared to the mag-sized handle scales that came with it. On the other hand, the wrap does add more to the grip on the top and bottom, which I think is another plus. It feels more secure, in that your hand doesn't slide forward as easily.

Thanks! It's a little hard to see in the pic, but at the part that has the letter "A" engraved, you can see the bare metal underneath. This one has quite a few dimples!:D

Would the epoxied paracord hold up well to a kydex sheath, you think?

I've always like the 4-6 hour epoxy simply because I always seem to need extra time when I'm working with a project. Never cared much for the quick-dry drywall mud either. :p

Yeah, it would hold up just fine in kydex. I've purchased a few Bill Siegle knifes (thanks for the tips on how to do this Bill!) that have the same type of handle wrap and they fit very snug in the Kydex sheaths he made for them.

I think I've mentioned this already, but the epoxy I used is Devcon 2 ton epoxy. I don't know how others would hold up.
