Hi folks,

I went to one of the Bill Goodman Gun Shows here in Southern Ohio last weekend, and found a item that I really enjoy!

I was walking past the "knife guy", who I always ask about old Benchmade knives, especially the old Emerson designs, the Benchmade 970 and the longer bladed 975. He never has any though.

But this Sunday, as I walked past his tables I saw a familiar shape!! "Uh, sir! Excuse me, but is that a Benchmade 970 there?"

"Well," he replied, "That's an Emerson CQC-7." :-)

I bet you are noticing the stained blade and handle screws. And saying to yourself, "He paid $180 for THAT!?"

No, actually I only paid $50 for the stained one, The other $130 I paid was for the brand new one shown below!

Forgive my enthusiasm, but just love these blades! I prefer the longer 975 model, but the opportunity to buy a pair of the shorter 970 at this price was irresistible!

Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoyed the story!

Wow, a rare find, indeed! Great buy and I think $50 for the stained one is a steal - I bet it will clean up just fine. Enjoy them

So - maybe I'm Emerson-stupid here, but was the first Emerson CQC-7 made by Benchmade or what?

I really like that Emerson/Benchmade either way.

Might as well bead blast that rusted one. I think they're bead blasted from the factory. It would remove the logo, but the blade would look 100% new. Could blast the screws too.
If you're around central Ohio, there's a shop that can do it at a resonable price. It's call River's Edge Cutlery, in Hilliard.
Cool knives. I had a few back in the day. I do perfer the 975 myself, but those are still nice.

I liked mine except that it was tip down. Damn Benchmade and their refusal to do tip up linerlocks

Holy stained metal batman that is an awesome deal!!! You lucky dog you, those are becoming very hard to find.

I still have my 975 I picked up new 15 years ago. I paid $130 back then, so your $180 you paid today for two knives is a heck of a deal!

Thanks for all the kind words, I was quite surprised to see the new one sitting in the knife guy's case myself.

The new one was marked to sell for $140, which would have been fine with me, but it was a gun show so of course I had to ask, in a deep serious voice, "Is that your best price? I'm paying cash, is that as low as you can go?" When he said, "Okay, I'll go $130" I kinda chuckled and handed over the money.

Then he mentioned he had another one he had gotten from the same fellow that sold him his collection, but that it was "stained somethin' awful" and he'd let it go for "half-price". When he finally found it, he said he wanted $50 and I went for it! :p

I am very happy! :D I already have a couple 970s and a 975 that I bought soon after Benchmade brought them out, but when they were discontinued I stopped carrying them, as a didn't want to ruin or lose them. But now I have another "spare" 970 and a perfectly functional "bloodied" one I can carry without worries! ;) Woohoo!

Very nice.

EZ, the Emersons were made by BM before Emerson started production for himself. I have a NIB one, and my father has my old one that I got in like 1994-95.

Nice! I think I fondled those very knives at the Gun show in Sharonville a few weeks ago. That is funny! I was on a quest for a military or a CQC-15 and I passed on those. Nice score! The guy told me the very same story!

I've had ths 970ti forever and it takes a hell of a beating. I got it from a non-knife guy who just loved the fact that he could hammer it through pvc pipe all day without it breaking :)

I am soooo jealous...best find yet....just got one too....can't wait for it to get here....enjoy

great buy!
i had to pay 140 for a mint with box smaller 970, but its with black coating and those damn serrations.

Sweet score! You had me going for a second when I thought you paid 180 for the user but 2 for that price is awesome!

Ahh, you are a lucky person... Thats one of the greater deals I've seen. I hope you enjoy your awesome new blades.

Great find! I would disassemble the stained one and let the rusty parts sit in CLR overnight
then rinse, wipe clean, lube & reassemble.

Very Nice find!

Man, a little (well, a bit more than a little) rust for getting the knife at about 1/3 full price, esp. when it would just take a very short period of manual work to fix? You got an awesome score there.
