Picked these up on vaction, the international on top I know, but does anyone know for sure who what the one on bottom is, it has an exactly 4 in blade and thick handles like a custom, maybe it is one. the guy I got it from had gotten it in a trade many years previous. The blade is marked only with the butterfly with "balisong" in it and US pat4,364,174, made in USA on the other.

Thanks

Curse you!!! :D You have a PC (I think) 403, it [obviously] has a tanto blade. The handles on both Bali-Songs are pretty much the same width aren't they?!? Sweet find indeed!!

And as I reread your post I see that they are indeed thick. It is custom quality since the handles are milled out of some solid bars and it has a thick-a$$ blade. It is a custom that they assigned a number to (I believe the number is 403) so they also put the patent number on the reverse tang. Whew! Do you flip it at all?

Since you Have to know,,,,,,,

150 for the PC and I actually traded an emerson production folder for the international series. Yes I have swung the heavy one and it swings great though the edge does need a touch up. Since I carry and use almost all my balis I have given it a littel touch up, it now will shave paper not not hair yet:D

I also found a camo handled/black blade label dragon claw onteh blade that I beileve is an early frost and a rally weird old bali that I belive is a walker safety fish knife.

I'm no expert in appraising bali's,but it sounds like you did OK to me.The PC for $150 sounds like a very nice price to me,and i'm sure a few people would of snagged up on that one if given the chance.I for one would of loved to paid what you paid for it.
Anyways nice score,I should go on vaction more often myself, maybe i'll find something nice too.

Not sure of the number but it's definately a PC. It's not a custom however since it has exposed pins, and to my knowledge, no customs did.

Actually the pins aren't exposed, exposed means that they stick out from the handles, these don't. When PC and BM made "hidden" or "polished" pins they had the hinge pins and latch pin set down in the handles then they put melted metal into the hinge holes and "polished" them down so that they were "hidden" the extra metal or polish is not there so you can see the pins but they are deep inside the handles. :)

Yeah the pins are actually hidden/polished on the side not shown it is only the side shown where you can see them,

Nice find! The bottom tanto is a pretty rare PC piece that was made for a short time in the mid-80's. The customs were marked 'Bali-Song USA' on the reverse of the tang while the production/semi-custom stuff was marked with the US Patent numbers. IMHO, trading for a production folder is a steal!!! You'll need to go on vacation more often:D!

What dawkind said :) the PC 403 is a weehawk.. this if my memory does not fail me is a 404. The patent numbers on the back means they are mass produced custom grade knives.. noone ordered em but they were farmed out at the same standards as a custom. :)

Did all PC's have patent numbers or was it just a select few? I've got a 3" PC utility that seems to be much higher quality and much tighter than any BM's I've ever handled.

Yes.. all PC production and semicustom/production (ie the 400 series) all have the patent number stamped on them.. by the way Balilovber, good eyes.. I didnt notice the "exposed" pins the first time..

I beg to differ but, IMHO, the 4 standard blade styles that were not considered to be special order were the: PC401- Utility blade; PC402- Bowie clip blade; PC403- WeeHawk blade; PC404- Tanto blade. All the other blades were on a special order basis, i.e., WeeHawk tanto, Spanish bowie, Scimitar, etc.....
