I'm headed back down to the Amazon jungle in the very near future (next couple weeks). I'm not sure the exact departure date because I have to wait for the expedition to get to a certain point, but it is close. I bought one of these babies after PWYP and I'm loving it. I used mine enough to have to resharpen it. I put a Fisk edge on it. I also stripped off the coating at the same time.

Anyway should be lots of fun.

Looks like you did a great job on the edge Doc. I don't think you'll miss the ESEE 4...:D

The Amazon? Wow, that is very cool. Please post some pics if you are able. The closest thing i will be getting to the Amazon is the .com type. That knife looks scary sharp. I hope it serves you well. :)

I can't believe how sharp my Fisked 16 is. It makes a lot of difference in the performance of the knife.

Good job with yours. Iowaguy.

This is my second trip down there in 3 months. This time I'm going for an expedition/documentary film. I'll take some photos but I'm pretty sure I can't post them publically. I had to sign a 40 page contract because of the film so I'm gunshy. I can, however, show the photos privately at Ethan's Fall gathering.

I was always fond of the 3. I still like mine but I've retired it. At this point it has sentimental value and I'm not using it like a tool anymore. It is a wall hanger. I like the BK-16 a LOT. The handle is very very good. I need to get some orange scales for it. Wonder if anyone is making them?

The bk 16 seams to always end up with me it is just the right size for my city needs.

That edge is really nice. I've just started to practice on crappy garage sale knives and haven't gotten anywhere near that nice.

PM me your mailing address. We don't have time for a turn-around, but I'll send you some orange scales -- with a rough finish for a better-than-stock grip.
I need me to have some product in the Amazon. I got Becker shit in several places in the world, but South America isn't one of them! Got to do some of that ying-yang balance stuff, or my world will tip. :D

Damn Doc.....

Are you gonna open a satellite practce down there.......Glad you are enjoying your 16.......am very happy you intend to come down for the fall gathering.....Yay!!!!!!!!....

I don't think I'm allowed by Bladeforums rules to say what I'm doing down there because they might consider it promotion etc. Also, the people I am going with had this crazy specific (40 page) contract so I'm afraid to even say the name of what I'm doing. It is medically related but I won't be doing anything medical. I'll be hacking through jungle for a few weeks.

I'm planning on bringing my wife Gretchen to the fall gathering but with reservations. You see, once people meet her, they want nothing to do with me anymore. :)

Was there ever a huge photo spread from your last trip down that way? I kept looking for another one of those huge picture threads about it but never found it.

I've been releasing stuff in dribs and drabs on video. I didn't feel like doing another 'trip report' video series, but instead I've been focusing more on specific skills based videos, because that is what I focused on down there this time. I have put out a few photos, but not a big batch. Most of them are headed for publication in one form or another so I can't really post them everywhere. I really like the 'trip report' format for videos but I don't like to chew the cud twice. I've got several different trips in the works which would be very good for series - Sudan, Malawi and Libya are all very realistic possibilities later this year - but I've done the R.A.T. Amazon trip report. This particular trip to the Amazon is already being filmed and I'm locked into such a crazy contract that I can't really talk about anything. If you PM me I can give you details as well as friend you on facebook so you can follow it.

I bought a Kalamazoo grinder and a bunch of belts. I did a bunch of knives around the house and then offered my services free of charge to everyone I knew. Fisk himself taught me to do it. I did a couple knives and he offered constructive criticism. If I showed him my BK-16 I'm sure he could find a ton of things I could have done better. The photo just made it look good.

Well, I won't ask you about the project, so you don't get in trouble. But I will ask what you're taking beside the FFG (and Fisked) BK-16. Are you taking a machete, or planning on buying one down there? Folding knife, pack, etc. ? Stay safe...
