Came home earlier this week to find a package in my mailbox from my saintly mom. She bought this Case folder last year at the hardware store to use for opening mail. As I recall, she chose it because it was the easiest blade to open of those she tried. Not sure what model it is, but I kind of like it. The liner lock is not as robust as my other folders, but should be okay for light duty. I put it on the strop and the thing is razor sharp. Nice gift, Mom - I'll give it a good loving home.

Case calls it a "Trapperlock".

At least at the moment, Case only makes yellow handled Trapperlocks in CV steel. (Knives with other handle materials come in either stainless or CV.) If yours is CV, it should be so marked next to the model number on the tang.

CV is a non-stainless alloy steel. It rusts if not cared for, but it also develops a nice patina over time. Gets sharp as the dickens with very little work. Lots of folks on the Traditional Forum much prefer CV to Case stainless.

Your mother chose well.

Congrats!

Wow, that's a nice gift.
congrats, man...
If I were you, I would use it to open mom's mail only ;)
Oh, and BTW, I can't see why the CASE logo on the handle is sitting up side down, or is it the right side? Just curious, I've never handle a Case before...
