Question guys. Just got an 18in by 3in leather strip and a rouge lump. How much rouge do you put on the strop and technique tips would be appreciated.

Some heat up the rouge and rub it in - then use a knife and spread it like peanut butter.

I find simply coloring it like a crayon works just fine. If you have any light spots - you just hit those the next time you load up the strop.

A very easy way to apply rouge to a strop is by wetting the leather with a light oil like honing oil, rub in the jeweler's rouge until the leather loses the glaze from the oil and the rouge covers evenly and turns dull red. ---Sandy---

Thanks Sandy, I did not want to heat the stuff and I did not get a very good coverage using it straight like that. I'll try the honing oil.
