This is about 40 pounds worth of Don Hanson's W2, forged flat from 2-1/8" rounds by Michael Picula. The bars are mostly about 1-1/4" x 3/16" x 18" with a few shorter drops in there as well. Michael did a superb job, and the uniformity of the bars is quite good. Looking forward to forging some of this stuff later on. :D

For anyone not familiar with it, that looks to be some damn fine forging in the pics. I usually don't worry about getting it that finely knocked down as I just beat it up into a knife... ;) :D

HAVE FUN NATHAN!!! :D

Like Nick said, thats a nice job of flattening. So uniform and scale free too. W-2 is so nice to work.
Hey,, is that a new blower on the floor?

So when is the hammerin.........:D:p

Looking forward to seeing some of your knives with possibly some of those w2 hammons;)

Yep, Michael did an amazing job. He knocked the entire load down for $100 plus shipping. I really was blown away by how straight, clean, and even the bars were!

Bruce, those are some sharp eyes you have, my friend! :D:D Yes, that is a brand new blower. In the box is also a couple of blower controllers, a collection of 1/4" NPT fittings, a solenoid valve, and two 1/4" needle valves. On a shelf about 5 feet away is a PID and K-type thermocouple. All the workings of a PID controlled forge, just no forge :(. I ordered the forge from Darren in September, but they've been really busy with school, and it hasn't shipped yet. It's like waiting for Christmas as a 5 year old!! I also have an empty 40 pound propane tank sitting in the corner along with some Tom's tongs. It should be a good first of the year for me! I have a whole bunch of W1 drops, all of this W2, a whole passle of 52100, some 1084, and some CruforgeV. I haven't decided on what to start with just yet, but it will probably be the Cruforge or 1084.

I'm just really happy Don decided to give some of us a shot of his pile of W2. :)

Ryan, hopefully I will get to start "hammerin" my self after the first of the year :D. As for the hammer-in, it's on anytime you want to come to town. I'll even throw in a complementary piece of W2 ;). Maybe we can drag Ed out of his hole and get him swinging hammers as well. He's pretty stout, so we'll have him on the BIG hammer to work down some of these bearings I've got laying around. :D

Hey make the hammer in a little further south so this poor south texas boy can go. Nice score Nathan.

Wow, man you will be set to forge up a storm when you get the forge. Is it a vertical or horizontal forge? I'd like to see a picture of it when finished.
I havent tried the Cruforge steel yet but I love Dons W-2 so I just never ordered anything else.

The delivery man came in the store Monday and called to me that he had a package of steel for me on the truck. He knows that when it weighs a lot, and is long, thin, wrapped in cardboard with duct tape......that it is steel. He leaves it on the truck and we go move it to my car.

It was my bundle of W2 from Michael. He did a good job. If you folks want W2 in any dimensions, purchase it from Don Hanson, and he will ship it to Michael Picula. Michael will forge it down to the requested size and ship it to you.

Bruce, it's an 8" diameter by 13" long horizontal forge with a forced air burner. I'll post pics if it ever comes in. It should be just about right for my hobby work and maybe the occasional damascus billet later on.

I guess Darren and Kathryn are out of the shop for finals until December 12th. I'm getting a little frustrated as I was told (in October) that all that was needed prior to shipping was to assemble a burner, but there's nothing I can really do, so I don't worry about it. I'm not worried about getting ripped off as I know the Ellis' to be good folk. But they can be a bit slow in getting things out :D.
