About 4:30 the ups guy knocked on the door and left this on my porch.

After a few hours of work I finally got it out and put together.

I even got an extra surprise with the grinder.

I owe Jeremy Barnard a Lot more than just the knife I agreed to make for the grinder. This gift means a lot and I can't thank him enough. All I need now is a few belts and a ceramic platen and I will be all set to start throwing sparks.

Go ahead and start looking up modifications on that machine. First thing I did to mine was tack an extra Allen wrench to the tracking screw so I didn't have to fiddle with it constantly. Then I cut the portion of the work rest to the right of the platen. Make the cut flush with the platen so you can change belts without removing the work rest. Overall it will help you more than you think, and there are quite a few YouTube videos to show what I am talking about. Good luck and be sure to post up the knife you make for Jeremy!

Just got mine in the other day. I had to order the 15x2 inch glass planten from usa knife, cause they were out of the 7 inch ones. Just took my time with a diamond coated blade on my dremel and cut it to size and JB welded it in place. Make sure you were your mask when cutting it, creates a lot of fine particulate. Happy Grinding.

+1 on doing the quick mods to the machine, especially modifying the table to change belts more easily. As for the tracking bolt, rather than tacking an allen wrench to it, just take it out and take it to Ace Hardware and find a threaded knob that matches. Hard to tell from the pictures, but is the platen already modified?

Props to Jeremy for doing this for you.

Good luck and have fun,
Chris

I do need to get the ceramic platen. The threaded knob or taking an allen wrench is a good idea. If ace has a threaded knob that would be great. I currently don't have a way to cut the work table, but that is a really good idea. Thanks for the tips guys!

I'm going to have to cut my work table. I think it is Aluminum. If that is the case it should cut fairly easy, was going to use my dremel.
Anyone have any suggestions on cutting the work table?

I used an angle grinder *GASP*, but being as it is aluminum I see no reason a hacksaw wouldn't make short work of it.

Table is aluminum.... As is the rear surround for the belt. Cuts quickly with either a 4.5" grinder and cut-off wheel or reasonably fast with a hacksaw.

From the pics it appears to already have some sort of platen liner on it. Glass or ceramic... You may want to check with the prior owner...

Good trade... and yes the generosity here is second to none IMO.
