I got a call at about 11:55...Fed Ex at the front door buzzing up.
What could it be?
Looks like there might be a knife in that there box...
Feeling the excitement build.
The moment approaches closer...
Yes!
Next to its sibling:
And next to a slightly more distant cousin:
Ah, a family portrait...how sweet:
I'd like to put a huge shout out to Thomas at KAI; he's like Santa Claus, except for being real and answering his e-mails.
I wanted this knife since release was first announced, but with research funding drying up, there's no way I could have afforded it for at least the next 4 months.
Initial impressions:
Impeccable build quality, as can be expected.
Detent is solid, but not too bad; it will break in over time, and I like the blade to stay shut until I want it anyway.
Wave works very well, better than on my Super CQC-8 actually.
Very smooth action, especially for a blade riding on washers.
Plus, I like that the pivot can be tightened with readily available tools, or even my fingers if need be (when the 0561 loosened its pivot, I had to wait till I got home to a torx bit. The knife still worked just fine, but I couldn't use my fingers to tighten the pivot).
So, all in all I'm very freaking happy today.
Emerson design, Zero Tolerance build quality, and the titanium frame-lock goodness that makes my CQC-12 so sweet, all combined into one awesome knife.
Doing the happy dance, oh yeah.
Yes, it is good to be me.
