Chuck went out to go to work this morning, and this is what he found! Some idiot decided to use his window for target practice. I called police & made report, went outside to take pix, then called insuracne company who said the deductible is $500. Not sure what I am going to do to proceed, sure don't have the deductible..... But, truck can't sit all winter with no window either. Checked inside and nothing seems to be missing! Sorry to RANT on a Monday morning, I'm just really ticked off! We just can't seem to get a break!

(Rant off)

Hope everyone has a good week!

Dang Barb thats not any good, do you think it was a neighbor? I am really sorry for your guys misfortune. Any idea how much a window for his truck cost? If a few others could I would be willing to send you 50 bucks to help get it fixed. Let me know if that will help.

I am truley sorry for all you and Chuck have been going through.

Would not hurt to call the insurer again, not mention the window, and just ask them what the deductible is on your policy. See if you get the same answer.

$500 is somewhat of a high deductible, but OTOH it lowers your premiums.

Consider also a replacement window from a junkyard. Might save you some bucks.

Good luck!

Yeah, called home office & asked again... It's $500! And you're right, it keeps the premium down. We are looking into a replacement from a salvage yard, just need to get one installed & SOON... It is really cold!

Don't pay the deductible just yet... a scrapyard window should be less than 200.00, and the repair is a fairly easy one once the door panel is removed and the glass vacuumed out of the door, it's not a very expensive job in a shop, around 2.0 hours labor. The entire repair should cost less than 500.00. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you, :thumbdn: punk kids probably:rolleyes::barf:... nothing to lose any sleep over.

A replacement window should only be 150$ at the most. Don't mess with the insurance company about it...just call auto glass people and see what they'd charge for the replacement.

Back when my wife and I were still living in sin we were staying at this nice little penthouse overlooking the beach. We had to valet her Acura MDX when we got to the resort. One day we were going somewhere and the valet took forever bringing us the truck. It took m 30 minutes to tell us so eons had broken into the car. They kicked in the driver window and the rear widow and stole a printer and some other stuff out of the back (it had all be under a tonnoeau cover). It only cost us 500 to get that fixed and I believe 350$ of that was the back window.

Be glad it wasn't the windshield.

Let me know if I can help, Barb.

bad deal! do you think the shot came from the second story window across the street or from the grassy knoll?

.

Call around and check prices.
Windows have dropped in price a lot.Don't let them tell you that they are very expensive.I know stuff like this varies from place to place but here I would guess the window from a junk yard would not be over 50.00 and a good old boy back yard mechanic would put in for 50.00 to 100.00.
You can get front windshields installed here for most cars for around 200.00 and they even offer to come and do it while your car is in your works parking lot.

Yikes! What a way to start a Monday! :grumpy:

Hey, I am getting the work done right in front of the house, TODAY, for less than what my deductible would be! Thanks to everyone for the advice!! A neighbor came and used the shop vac to clean up the mess. Glass was everywhere in the truck, as you can see in the pics. All over the street, under the seats, caught in the carpet. I think we got it pretty clean, though. After all the sweeping, I went over the seats & doors with a damp sponge. It helps to pick up all the tiny slivers. The truck needed cleaned out anyway. :grumpy: Maybe the glass will be replaced before Chuck gets home from work!

Hey, Skunk, I looked everywhere and couldn't find a shell casing, rock or anything. Must have been some stupid kids out for fun. (they sure are warped in their thinking, if breaking car windows is what they call fun) In the past 3 years, this is the third such incident on our block!

Thanks again for the advice, sure came in handy! Guess my Monday morning rant saved me some money!!

That just SUCKS! I feel for you and Chuck. Some asshat smashed out my front windshield with a beer bottle a few years back, (lobed it over the fence like a grenade) glass everywhere! We had a very good idea who it was. They are to be dealt with at a later time.;)

2009 will be better for all, hang tough ...better days ahead!

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. But I was lucky, my neighbor had $600.00 dollars of knifes stolen from his barbecue that he keeps out front. I was picking glass out of the front seats for 6 months. 2009 is almost here, I'm sure your luck will change and things will start looking up, so keep your chin up.

Sorry to hear about this. Those windows can usually be shattered with an elbow. Probably punks looking for small items they can sell quickly

I had the same thing happen to my Chevy 1500 - cost was about $225 to have it replaced on site, but I was still finding broken glass inside the truck for several months afterward - it goes everywhere

Good luck and keep your chin up

Happened to me and a bunch of cars at a mall a few years back. They caught the kids doing it. They were using porcelain chips from spark plugs. They cracked the porcelain and were throwing the tiny chunks at windows which shatters glass. Little piece the size of a peanut cracks a windshield and shatters side and rear glass instantly.
Punks!

I'd call a junkyard.... they will even install it most likely for a reasonable fee.
