Having sold my Buck Vanguard I decided that I had to have another one. I believe it to be one of the best multiple use knives around. I had a problem though. I love the looks of the wood grain model. No contest looks wise. However when I griped the Rubber one, I knew that for a user, this is the way to go. Wet and cold conditions would really favor that excellent grip. I couldn't make the decision today, gotta do some more thinking. The wife said " I can see whats going to happen here". :D

yea, your gonna get both of them, as you should!

be sure to take her out for dinner and dancing afterwards!

Dinner, Maybe. Dancing? I would have to use my walking stick:) Come to think about it, I did take her to supper.

If you get a chance, check out the one Bass Pro sells. It`s got a 3 3/8" blade, it`s the one on the right in the picture.

I'm the cook, my wife burns water. I like the 'Alaskan Guide' Buck Vanguard that Cabela's sells - it's in S30V. It joined the regular wood handled 420HC bladed Vanguard here - that had been my 'woods walker/bushcraft' knife for a bit. I agree - especially if you dress beasties - the rubber handled one, which includes a Kydex/nylon sheath, is more weather & guts tolerant. However, leather works well in weather - that blade is highly tolerant of the dampness - and, that finger guard & pommel keeps your grip in place when it is damp - with rain. I personally don't need the rubber grip - and, admittedly, the AG version is almost too pretty to tote!

Get the wood handled/leather sheathed Vanguard!

PS My basic Buck 119 found it's way to my kitchen one day... it and my basic 120 are in a kitchen drawer - great kitchen knives!
