They don't give up the information, but I believe it *is* an epoxy type material pressured into the wood.

Mike Stewart is a nice guy and makes great knives. He made me 2 custom Nessmuks that are awesome:thumbup: .

I have great admiration for the whole thing they have going there, the hiring of local folks, the carbon steel, the convex edge, the basically selling the equivalent and sometimes even superior of a custom for basically production knife prices. The use of the net as a marketing tool and for design input. I think it shows a lot of intelligence and hope they stay afloat.:thumbup: :D

They make another model with faux ivory that is equally nice.
 
Very nice Yvsa . That would let the wind out of anyone,s sails . The burl grain seems to be in overlapping swirls . I couldn,t agree more that it adds a nice touch to the knife .
