Hey all, recently I've been carrying a Kershaw Needs Work. Not my favorite knife, but where I work a knife cannot have a blade longer than 3 inches, sucks I know. The Needs Work, has handled every task I've thrown at it with ease, but I'm looking for a "beefier" knife. I guess what I'm looking for is a knife with a blade around 3 inches, a thicker blade?, a more sturdy/bigger handle, and it doesn't necessarily need to be assisted opening but I would prefer if it was pretty easy to open one handed, any suggestions?. Sorry if this is somewhat vague, I'm new to the knife world! Thanks for the help!

Well anything under $100 would be alright, it wouldn't kill me to pay a little over that though.

Benchmade Mini Griptilian

Spyderco Manix 2

Beefier than a folder: Kabar BK-11

Since the mini grip has already been mentioned, I'll say mini Bone Collector, Native 5, or a medium Voyager.

He is asking for recommendations for a "beefier" knife, and you guys are recommending a Mini-Grip? I might not understand this because I've never handled one.

I'd say something along the lines of a Spyderco Persistence. They can be found online for about $35.

Yeah I could have mentioned I was checking out the Spyderco Persistence, Kabar Dozier, Kershaw Cryo, and the Cold Steel Mini AK47.

The Cryo is not beefier than the Needs work. I have both. The Cry is quite small actually. Kershaw Blur would be a good choice

For a beefy 3" folder you can't do much better than the Spyderco techno or the benchmade mpr. Both are absolutely top of their class (especially the techno) but will run you a bit higher than your limit.

Buck Small Vantage Pro
Kershaw Cryo
Cold Steel Mini American Lawman
CRKT M21-02G
SOG Vulcan Mini
Buck 112 (add a Kwik Thumb for one-handed opening)

Surprised delica 4 ffg hasn't come up. Screams edc and a nice blue or green wont make sheeple soil their depends

Liking the delica, especially since it comes in different colors. Anything that looks "tactical" is frowned upon.

The delica ffg in a bright colors is an EXCELLENT edc knife, but it's about as far from "beefy" as it gets. Afterall, the name delica does bare a strong similarity to the word delicate..... ;-)

The Delica is a great knife, but it's not a beefy knife by any stretch. It's considerably smaller (slimmer, narrower) than the Needs Work. I really like the FFG version, but if you were looking for a beefier knife w/ thicker blade, maybe the saber-grind one might suit you better.

The Cryo may be smaller than the Needs Work, but due to its all steel construction, it feels pretty stout. The blade on it is 2.75", so it is should be okay at your workplace.
