Lookin for wave vs Wave plus opinions

I know what they are as just having posted that I own both types. It's still a mechanical watch and subject to becoming magnetized.
Yeah sorry I meant I wear auto not quartz and I have had no problem with any of my watches while carrying my P4.

Lookin to finally get a leatherman wave or wave plus, have carried and used a PST, Orginal supertool (great tool layout and overall, bit too heavy for belt carry), and more recently a Rebar. Is the Wave + worth the extra weight with the upgrades over the Wave? Was there several variations of the original wave tool layout?
Addressing only the question regarding WAVE vs WAVE+, I would carry the WAVE. Instead of carrying a WAVE or a WAVE+, I carry an original SURGE, but the replaceable wire-cutters issue is the same. I prefer the slimmer, trimmer jaws of the earlier model:

For me, the need for an EDC tool that will cut hard wire is non-existent. I do, however, frequently appreciate the trimmer needle nose pliers for delicate work. The same would be true with the jaws of the WAVE/WAVE+ or the CHARGE/CHARGE+. Your needs may be different than mine. T-A

Most definitely worth it! I've replaced the cutters on my wave plus once and had resharpened the originals a couple times. I beat on that thing like it owed me money for 6 years and it was still in pretty good shape. I didn't even know you could still get the original wave. Also the plus with the replaceable cutters just cuts better to start with.

Now all that said, the wave scissors suck, the eyeglass drivers worthless IMO and alot of times i really wished it was bigger.
I just got a surge a few months ago and it is amazing. I drop it in my pocket and forget its there, but when I pull it out it's a much more usable sturdy tool. My wave now feels dainty when I pick it up. I have not went back to my wave. I would highly encourage getting a surge. Or if your really wanting the size of the wave, do you also carry a good knife? Or is your multitool your knife? If that's the case its Definitely worth upgrading to the charge tti for the same tool with the s30v blade.

For what it's worth, the head of the new Surge is the beefier squared needle nose not the rounded smooth needle nose. But that is not the case with the wave/ wave plus. The wave plus has the replaceable cutters and is still a smooth rounded needle nose

While Leatherman has retired all versions of the Wave except the WAVE+, that big online auction site makes virtually anything available. A couple weeks ago I got WAVE with leather holster and a LM REV all for $60. Happy hunting! T-A

I wonder about those magnets.

If you're around a lot of drilling, grinding and filing will they collect debris? And then how hard is it to clean the debris out.
The magnets may have the unforeseen benefit of attracting metal shavings and dust, helping to keep it out of the pivots of the tools.

I just recently disassembled my FREE P2 after about a year without having been cleaned, and there was a minimal amount of debris stuck to the magnets. Certainly not enough to cause any issues.

I stand corrected! I should know what I'm talking about BEFORE I post!
WAVE + in silver with WAVE in black.

The jaws of both are equally needlie! BTW, I love the WAVE, but I EDC a fully accessorized original SURGE over my right hip along with an original CHARGE TI clipped in my left front pocket. Keeps me from blowing away on windy days! T-A
