So i have never bought a fix blade to carry, one for hunting which are none i would want to make an EDC. My questions are, what are you favorite fix blades and which would be good to carry? Also, for carrying purpose; how do you carry yours? Does it get in the way of any movement or any annoyances with the place you keep yours? Thank you for your information! If you feel like you need to add more then what i asked feel free!

Are you looking for belt carry or neck carry?
What is the blade length range you're interested in?
What are your expected uses?

EDITED TO ADD:
You should check the laws of your location. Some localities jave limits on blade length, open vs conciled carry (for example, it may be legal to open carry a 7 inch fixed on your belt, but illegal to have a 2 inch blade neck knife under your shirt, or open carry period is prohibited, or ...

Oh didn't think to add this;/ I think id rather a belt carry, the blade length im not entirely sure, iv never messed with fix blade knifes and just getting into them so which ever you guyses thoughts are i can take into consideration. Also, expected uses would just be EDC stuff, not sure, just when the opportunity arises?
As for the laws, i live in Wyoming so pretty much everything goes, i cant find anything that has a length limit. Only thing i cannot do is conceal carry it.

Wyoming has ZERO knife laws. Also, any Wyoming resident can carry firearms or any other 'weapon' concealed as long as they are not in a town. And even if they are in a town, no police officer in Wyoming would ever arrest anyone for carrying a blade concealed unless there was a good reason for it (eg. other illegal behavior). If a person wishes to carry concealed around the town, permits are a relatively simple matter... fill out some paperwork and throw a few bucks at the system. Wyoming has perhaps the least intrusive laws in the nation regarding 'weapons,' which, as we know, are actually tools, when used responsively.

The selection question is a tough one without some kind of preference guideline. For a first fixed blade at a very reasonable cost I would look at the offerings from BUCK U.S.A., and I am thinking here of the well-known blades with black phenolic handles, such as the 105, 102, 121 or 118. And then for some $ start looking at Bark River, among many other good companies. Not to mention all of the discontinued knives from WESTERN, et al.

This is why i love Wyoming, its so free when it comes to this. There was a few things i did not know though so thanks for this!

Thanks for the suggestion on the knives to! Ill take a look at them and see

If I carry a fixed blade, it will either be in a pocket or on a thong around my neck, as I don't like to wear a knife on my belt. A Mora 612 (same size as a #2) will ride comfortably in a pocket. A Marttiini Lynx is perfect for neck wear. This time of year, I tuck it inside my shirt to keep it out of the way. A fine cigar cutter.

I would recommend the Critter by Screech Owl Knives. I just recently purchased one and couldn't be happier. If you are looking for a small fixed blade with a pocket clip.

There are several threads on carrying fixed blades and I would start there. Ive tried carrying smaller knives like the Bark River PSK and Lon Humphrey Whitetail but as in the pocket carry. For on the belt I personally would go with around a 7" oal drop point in a steel that could be touched up in the field easily. I also would go with a convex edge and a full tang.

There are several makers on the exchange worth looking at as well.

Let us know what you go with and how you like it.

Yes i do want full tang, but what does the convex edge do? I dont understand the edge types yet.

Wow, deffinatly going to look this one up thanks

Take a look at the Lone Wolf Trailmate. Similar to the Critter and comes with a horizontal carry belt sheath.

Being a "vintage antique" (according to one of my neices) I'm a bit on the "old school" side.
I'd look at the Bucks, and add the 103 for consideration. The Condor Nessmuk and Kephart are worth a gander, the Schrade Sharp Finger is a good one, new OR used, In my experience, the Taylor-Schrades are every bit as good as the old USA made Schrades, although if you can find a used Schrade 150, I think it was, same size and shape as the Sharp Finger, but a drop point rather than a clip point. Taylor has not brought that one back yet. Some of the new Old Timer fixed blades have 1095 carbon steel blades (they get wicked sharp and are easy to sharpen). For not a lot of dollars, Rough Rider makes a great product. (See the Rough Rider and related thread) Colt and Marbles also have some nice fixed blades, as does Ontario Knives.
Just remember, you do not have to spend a lot of money to get a high quality knife.

Start cheap and decide what you like best through your own experience. Mora Companion, about $15, and the bargain of the century.

For a smaller fixed blade that doesn't get in the way I carry a crkt spew horizontal right beside my belt buckle. I don't know what your uses are but for me it covers 90% of my needs every day. Pair it with a good folder and you should be good to go. I'm not an expert by any means but it's what works for me.

My first choice would be a Hess. Ditto for second choice, third choice, fourth choice, etc. It boggles my mind how Hess aren't more popular than they are here on the forums. Fantastic looking handles and sheaths, and 1095 carbon steel blades from GEC. All for just over the $100 mark. I say get one before they catch fire and double their prices.

Hess do great knives for the price!
For
$ 15 get a Mora
$ 100 gives You a Hess
$ 200 for a Bark River
$ 300 a Fällkniven highend like NL5 or SK1

It's true the STATE of Wyoming has no limit on the length of knives. However, according to handgunlaw.us, the cities of Casper and Cheyenne have a 4 inch limit then Laramie and Douglas have a 5 inch limit. Just a thought and good luck.

I often carry a small fixed blade on my belt when outside working on my property. It's very handy to have a blade that does not have to be opened before it can be used.
The important word is "small". A 3" blade is all you need; 7" maximum for OAL. Look at Bark River knives for a big selection of small EDC fixed blades. The Adventurer is The Best i think but it is sold out. Another fine BRK is "The Essential" with M4 tool steel and Rc 64 is a super tough tool, last you a lifetime, possibly with original edge.
I like an angled belt sheath. I am right handed so wear it on my left hip. Knife is easy to get out and back in, and it does not get in the way as a vertical carry sheath does. I have also found the dangler sheaths which are common with Finnish knives, to be a fine carry, never get in the way even when driving.
If you go small, you will love it. And of course you will still carry a folder in a pocket. A true knife knut does not leave home with only one knife on board.

We think alike, kj. I don’t carry a fixed blade knife off my property due to a myriad of confusing laws, but I’ve begun carrying a smaller fixed blade around the house and outdoors for ease of use, and for a change of pace from the usual folder. Here are two recent acquisitions--a Dozier K-9 Personal Utility at 6.875” OAL, and a Bark River Adventurer at 6.775” OAL. (Although the Adventurer appears to be sold out, it has been replaced by the 7.875” Adventurer II...a little too long for my usage, but maybe of interest to the OP.)
