Looking at a .357 for my first Revolver

Something appropriate for most people to conceal carry makes a big difference in choice. The Ruger SP-101 is about as big and heavy as I could stand. The LCR's are popular. The grip is a tad large, but that makes shooting them more comfortable. But I prefer the lite S&W and Rugers. I carry a S&W M442 (blue version of 642) and have been pleased with it. I don't see much need for 357 in such a small light revolver. I would call that pain. But many do buy the 357 version and carry 38 spl's just for the potential flexibility. I wonder what flexibility does one want really?

I much prefer to shoot a full sized revolver in 357 mag. It will also be more pleasant to shoot by others who might not be as able to deal with the recoil. The GP-100 is too large for most to carry concealed.

I have a carry unit made for full sized pistols

Just an observation, I could be wrong.

You are looking for a
Target pistol -- heavy enough to take up some of the recoil of .357 Mag. with single action trigger that snaps like glass around 2/two Lbs. and adjustable sights.
And
Home defense -- same as above but stays loaded and in the night stand, double action so the ND from being amped up isn't as likely.
And
Concealed carry -- easily concealed, light enough that you don't mind carrying it around so you don't just leave it in the car or house.

Problem I see is, as others have mentioned, all 3/three don't really exist in one pistol.

Target and Home defense, not a problem.

Concealed carry, and Home defense, not a problem.

Target and Home defense and Concealed carry, don't come in the same package.

I've read the thread from the start, and most of the posts I agree with, (I'm partial to S&W, over Ruger), but all in all its been good advice.

the info you are getting is coming from experience, not magazine articles and internet blogs. You should take it, JMHO.

Get 2/two guns, one for concealed carry and one for Target shooting, get the target gun first but don't plan on carrying that ten inch piece of steel around for concealed carry, because it don't work, its uncomfortable and you wont carry it for very long.
YMMV, JMHO and the opinion of others here.
Good luck, enjoy it what ever you get.
