I haven’t bought one in a while and feel the need to put another one in my EDC rotation . I currently rotate these Busse son of swat , bark river and a Bradford guardian 4 and a Busse game warden.I am just kind of looking for something a little different but not sure what I am looking for. I need it to be no more than 8 to 81/2 OAL for front pocket carry. I don’t mind spending 500-800 either and like to have something that can be handed down to my son eventuality.

KSF and DLT are doing preorders on the Bark River Classic Drop Point Hunter in S45VN and Magnacut. Gorgeous Loveless design with scales, liners, and pins of your choosing. Not sure how long the lead time is, but that’s where my next fixed blade is coming from.

I have looked at Carothers DEK in the past and they are to find for sale. Anyone see any for sale lately ?

Take a look here, direct links below.

And sometimes here too.

Use the link that Retired UPS Driver provided for the CPK Buy, Sell, or Trade and ask if someone has a knife they would want to sell. You missed the new DEK Preorder, but they will probably be selling some in the "Friday Sales" in a few months or so.

Nothing wrong with a Carothers. I've heard nothing but great things about them. But, they can be hard to find as you mentioned.

Maybe a custom fixed from one of the makers here at BF? You could always reach out to a maker and tweek something to fit your specs. That way you would have a *one of a kind* knife to pass down to your son.

Something like this with a shorter handle would be very nice ... (just an example)

Gotta put my vote in with Carothers. Absolutely top quality fit and finish, tough blades. If you can't find one you like, spend the same amount of money and get a custom made. Tom Krein and Robert Erickson Robert Erickson are great choices, and countless makers here and on Instagram that make great pieces at great prices.

Any other suggestions?
I really don’t want a regular production knife but on the other hand I don’t like to wait once I make my mind up to get something I get impatient lol.
Is there any currant knives that you would say is worth buying as a collector that might increase in value ?
I have looked and see some that I like but I’d rather spend some coin on something that will be worth it and not just another knife in ten years.

Don't ever buy knives as an investment. Why do you need it to increase in value if you are passing it down to your son? You just need something that's nicely made with quality materials

I think that my gorgeous Carothers DEK1 was worth waiting on! I think that I waited about 10 months on her. She has stonewashed D3V steel with a swedge and penetrator tip, Cocobolo scales with blued titanium fasteners.

Idk really , not looking as something to sell because I never buy to sell but I guess just the thought of something that could be worth something one day.

I would also caution you on buying a knife as an investment unless you plan on getting an original Loveless, Randall, etc. Ya I know Randall is still around with the son and grandsons, I mean one made by Bo.

Maybe this will help.
1. Buy a production model that is in stock. Maybe a

2. Contact a maker here at BF and get them to tweek something they make. Most makers will gladly work with you on handle and blade materials. The one downfall, it will probably takes weeks/months to get to you. That is why step 1. You get a new knife in your hand within a few days.

I think you have enough room in the budget to get two knives and scratch two itches. The 2nd knife will be a *one of a kind* and will go to your son, the 1st knife is still a quality knife and can be added to your rotation.

You really can't go wrong with a Carothers. Not to fan boy but literally if you say you want something quality they're known specifically for being just that and it's not much more than a normal production. Another thing about them is they're a small American team making these blades at their shop. So the quality is definitely there.

With your price range you could buy a couple from them and honestly I'd do that if I had the money lol but maybe buy one from them, then contact a custom maker here or Instagram like I said. You'd be surprised the people making amazing fixed blades for not that much money. There are some talented guys here. Plus you get EXACTLY what you want.

Unfortunately you can't ask about prices without a gold membership. I would say to take a look at the carothers forum and see how much they are going for BEFORE buying it.
That’s pretty petty of who ever made that decision lol but whatever control floats their boat I guess.
