my question is i realy want an IZULA, but when using it for cleaning deer will the Paracord get to dirty to get smell out and stuff? would the RC-3 be alot better choice, i know with the IZULA i might carry it from time to time as an EDC where the RC-3 i never could EDC. Also can Paracord just be washed in the washing machine?
thanks
Jared

why cant you edc? im guessing local laws? You dont have to wrap the izula.. or you could take it off b4 you dressur deer? idk

i can EDC up to 4 inches but what i meant was when i am at college to many sheeple but when i am in my home town its cool, i just dont like the idea of taking off a bunch of cord before hand, i dont mind when i am back home cleaning the knife cause even on an RC-3 i would take the handles off to clean it, i just wonder if any one has washed the Paracord and how well it worked out

Black paracord might be harder to spot stains than other colors, I have washed paracord but I have never tried to remove blood from it so I'm not for sure on how easy that would be. The izula rides great in the pocket, it makes for a great EDC knife.

i dont mind a little blood i will most likely wrap it in orange it just fits a hunting knife, i think i will just have to order one when ever i get a little extra cash to try it out :)

Next question is there any real advantage too the kit version if you dont need the firesteel for any real need?

i don't wrap my izula, which means no stains and smells. Just rinse it with soap and water, dry it, oil the blade and it's good to go again. If you are really attracted to the wrapped look, paracord is very inexpensive and you could always change to a fresh new cord after every skinning. Furthermore, you can wash paracord, but it degrades the line.

In terms of buying the kit, it's really up to you to decide whether or not you need a whistle, extra paracord, firesteel, etc. I bought the kit and a lot of the accessories were useful to me.

However, based on your need for a knife (skinning). An RC-3 is better fit for your needs. You can EDC an RC-3 pretty covertly but why would you need to carry a knife around your campus?

The Izula is nice but more work to skin a deer with. But you can take off the paracord or just throw it aways and put on somemore. @$10 for 100'. Depending on how much you use you can skin a deer a year for 20 yrs.

well i edc a knife everyday even at school but its just my BM 707, i moved to KC for college so i dont plan to carry an Izula here, but i am from a small town and a farm kid so me being back in town means i will be hunting out shooting or working my A$$ of, and it would make a great utility knife for those needs, i wouldnt even consider it here at college, and sometime i do forget how cheap paracord is i didnt realy think of it like that, i believe the IZULA is in my future and i do plan on getting a RC-3 sometime but i gotta get an edge pro first

I found the solution for you.

Get both.

But really though, paracord is cheap. As others mentionned, if it gets dirty, just replace it.

If you get your paracord stained and do not wish to use it, is is easily replaceable. It is only 5-6 dollars for 100' most places. Although, once you get one, you will eventually get the other, so it really doesn't matter ;)

well i wasnt one or the other before deer season this year, then i need an edge pro and then the other one i didnt get yet :)

man you really dont need to wrap the handel, its more of a comfort thing if you ask me. but your going to run into the same problem with the rc3 as well you will have to take the slabs off to get the gunk out from between them and the knife. if it was me i would just leave the handle unwrapped and go with it

Well i am almost starting to think i will need to order both to decide wich one i like for a hunting knife :)
thanks guys
Jared

I would just replace the paracord after deer cleaning. It isn't like your going to be gutting a deer every other day. At least let's hope not.

i can EDC up to 4 inches but what i meant was when i am at college to many sheeple but when i am in my home town its cool, i just dont like the idea of taking off a bunch of cord before hand, i dont mind when i am back home cleaning the knife cause even on an RC-3 i would take the handles off to clean it, i just wonder if any one has washed the Paracord and how well it worked out

i wont gut one everyday for damn sure but i normaly kill atleast 3 sometimes up to 6 during rifle and bow season, and yes we eat all we kill, deer meat is cheaper than Beef :)

My honest recommendation is the RC-3 is a better hunting knife. It is a fantastic skinning blade. It is also thinner (believe it or not) than the Izula and gets sharper as a consequence.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Izula. I have two of them. If you think that neck carry will be more important than you and you want a daily pocket carry EDC then the Izula is an excellent knife. However, if I were buying an RC-product primarily as a game processing/hunting knife, hands down it would be the RC-3. Beautiful edge profile suited to that task and a comfortable handle that is easy to clean. The sheath on the RC-3 is better adapted for belt carry. Better yet, go with the molle backing for more options and versatility. The molle backing lets you wear it on the belt in a drop down fashion which is more comfortable and better suited to wearing with a back pack.

As others said, buy a 100' length of paracord and replace it when necessary. In all likelihood, you'll replace your izula wrap before it even really wears out as you will want to mix it up. Paracord is cheap and wrapping it takes about 10 minutes.

You can always take the paracord off, right before you clean the deer, then put it back on later.
