As the title says I'm looking for some all copper loveless bolts in the 5/16" diameter. I know I can get them in 1/4" from Jephco but I would really like 5/16" is there anywhere I can get these? Maybe someone who makes these that could do a custom order? I was going to contact Jephco but couldn't find a email.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
DR....

I haven't seen copper loveless style fasteners at any of the knife making supply houses.

There's brass, but not copper.

Sorry, I misread your question. As far as I know, there are no copper Loveless bolts. Corby bolts are better anyway, IMHO.

Actually, Jephco knife supply has 1/4" all copper loveless bolts but I was hoping to find something bigger but have come up empty handed so far(1/4" isn't to bad though)

In what way do you think they are better? I like the look of corby's a little better but not enough to use them over loveless bolts when strength matters...IMO loveless bolts are allot stronger, and easier to use. I have been tightening corby bolts and just had the shaft twist apart on me and I didn't think I was twisting that hard(on the other hand I can torque a loveless bolt to heck and it doesn't break on me).

I like to grind my handles nice and thin and I have had trouble with the corbys in a number of ways. I just don't like the feeling that the corby isn't holding all the way through, loveless bolts are. IMHO the only place corby's are better is looks(and granted they are there) maybe I have had a crummy experience with them and that's why I'm asking...but I think from a mechanical standpoint they just are not quite as strong(the difference might not be big but I'm just a fan of loveless bolts now)

I also don't like that you have to shorten the corbys to make them tighten right when your making a skinnier handle. and where the threads attach to the body/head of the bolt is not very thick.

I'm not trying to put anyone down on this. I haven't seen any results of one being better than the other just how I feel about it and wondering what others thought of corby's vs Loveless bolts.

Best Regards,

Corbys need to be shortened and modified to the knife, but they are not weak. If you are breaking Corby bolts during glue-up then you are over tightening.

On the other hand, I also use Loveless-type fasteners because they tighten securely and my customers like them.

If you are seeking copper/copper loveless fasteners . . . Then there will be no contrast and no additional detail so why don't you simply seek copper Corby bolts instead? It will be a cleaner finish.

In any case, 5/16" diameter fasteners will not provide more function or strength than 1/4" when properly bonded.

Corby bolts also come in different lengths for thinner handles. If you are breaking a Corby, you are forcing it to do something it isn't designed to do. No handle fastener should apply more than a moderate amount of pressure on the scales. Even more so, copper is a soft metal. Copper bolts and fasteners are not designed to be torqued down hard. If you feel you have to torque it hard, use stainless steel.
