Looking for 5 speed pulleys

I just bought a motor from ebay, and I'm going to build a grinder once I get enough materials to do so. Right now, I am looking for a pulley system to get different speeds. To be more exact, I am looking for a 5 step pulley, with the OD sizes of 2",3",4",5",and 6". I haven't seen any of these except on Ebay, for $67 each, which is a little over my price range. I'm hoping for something closer to $50 or less for both. I've seen 4 step pulleys for very cheap, but I was surprised that I couldn't see any 5 step.

Thanks for any help.

I can tell you that a 4 step pulley will give you a very usable range with a 1725 rpm motor. Thats 2" 3" 4" 5". the low speed on my NWG is around 800 feet per minute. The high is 5000. I figured it out once but don't have the numbers here in front of me. At 5000 fpm you can destroy some perfectly good steel in short order.

I find the 3 step pulley (purchased from Norm Coote) to work just fine! What is the rush and the need to grind at 5000 SFPM? HAHA ! You'll cook the temper right out of a blade at that speed !

I recently bought 2, 3 stepped pulleys for around $50 each. The ones I wanted were around $90-100 each... I think they were 5 stepped. I would be cautious of the really cheap ones that aren't machined.

On a grinder build Garrett Schmidt and I done this winter we used 4 step and then just added the extra pulley up tight against the stepped pulley worked great.
Ken.

It's more to get the speed down to about 600 fpm. That way I can have a buffing wheel at a comfortable speed, and any other stuff I put on it.

Yup. Motor had a 2,3,4,5 step pulley. Drive shaft had 2,3,4,5 step pulley and a 6" butted up right next to it. When I did some approx calculations, I think the 2" on the motor running with the 6" from the drive yielded a speed around 570. Going from 2/5 to 2/6 doesn't make a whole lot of difference. I rarely find myself using the fastest or the slowest speeds unless there is a special circumstance.
