I'm getting an RC-6 for outdoor use, I need a big knife, it has the kind of geometry I'm looking for, I ruled out all of the other ones. I do not like bowie types for my outdoor uses, I think all in consideration that the RAT RC-6 is the best choice overall (from the knife to the people who make them). An axe is heavy and cumbersome, yes I have one when in the airplane, but I don't like using it, plus they now put a small one in order to save space and weight so shitty axe is not what I want to rely on. My primary knife is a GERBER LMFII (I convexed it) and that is my overall reference knife for me. But I want a combo, A long reach and a neck knife, Long is dictated by a 12" max length, so a 7" blade . So the neck knife it will be an IZULA, I made that choice long ago just have to get it now. Overall I find that the RC-6 meet my demands so I call it a go.
As for the usefulness of a big knife in outdoors, well I won't go in a Costa Rican forest without a machete and I find that better be too long than too short, I like the extra leverage from a long knife, But sure its cumbersome for "small tasks" than is why if I get a RC-6, a small knife will go with it, And an izula seems my best choice unless you propose better .
Congratulations!
ya can't go wrong with RAT CUTLERY!
