Looking for a $40~ camping folder for a friend

'Nother vote for the Kabar Large Folding Hunter. Strong lock, interlocking FRN scales, and subtle high hollow grind. It just feels solid. Just got one and it gets rotation with high end Spydercos.

I looked over all your suggestions for some while and ended up liking the simple charm of the Buck 110. I think it's value as a classic and a great starter knife are special. I purchased it from the more "country" Wal-Mart near me and plan to give it to my friend this weekend as we head off on a camping trip.

Thanks again!

I've been using my CRKT M-16 13M (military edition - it's just green) for two years now as my every day carry. And as far as EDCs go, I don't think you can beat it for the $49 that knifeworks asks for it.

It is TOUGH. Believe me... it's been through military abuse on deployment and a lot of places - even saved a Honduran farmer's last cow with it (long story). Anyways, I'm ordering another one because I lost that one... Highly recommended!

My .02

P.S. You can get it in red and black. As well as different blade lengths and styles...

You made a great choice!
I'm sure your friend will like it alot.

The Buck 110 is an American classic.
And although I own many different knives from many different makers, the one on my side right now is an Alaskan Guide Buck 110 from Cabela's.

Here's another  for the Buck 110. For $30, it doesn't get much better.

Spyderco Salt. They’re tough, light, and rust proof. It’s hard to ask for more than that in a pocket knife.

Edited to say:
Oops, should have read the thread. I agree the Buck 110 will do very well.
But it wouldn’t hurt to look at a Salt for yourself.
