Looking for a 5" tactical fixed blade

spyderco fred perrin. ridiculous knife. i have to admit though, that ontario afghan looks incredible for a bigger tougher medium sized fixed blade

The Fred Perrin is the ugliest knife I have (and I have many).
But it's incredible versitale.
Light, quick, good steel, comfortable, good size,...
Can use it edc, picknick, camping, trekking,...

Tactical knives don't need to be tick and heavy, tactical is not survival or whatever.
If you think about the term they don't even have to have premium steel.
Essentially they don't need to slice often.

Personally I don't am into tactical, but the perrin fits the description and much more.
You really have to use it to appreciate it.

I do like the Spyderco Temperance II but the price is more than I'm willing to give for it.
Maybe if it was made in the usa with cpm 3V (costs probably less for Spyderco)

I just mic-ed the Buck 105, 119, and 650 - all 420HC heat-treated to Paul Bos's specifications. The steel is not 'just' 420 SS - takes and keeps an edge quite well.

105 .120"

119 .186"

650 .234"

Yep, the 105 is maybe the right 5" length, but a tad thin. The 119, Les Stroud's choice in several of his 'Survivorman' episodes, is another great choice - and readily available (They were $34 at Wally World last year.). Great knife, even if mine - and it's 120 big brother - do reside in my kitchen drawer - for meat/veggie slicing duties. The 119 has a 6" blade (The 120 is a 7.5"!).
