Looking for a basic small pocket folder

Just ordered a Delica 4 in zdp-189 british racing green. Should be ample - thankyou everyone for your assistance

I work in the tech field

Watching you guys argue over IP is sort of amusing

A) It's chinese steel, our IP laws don't matter over there, and even if they did they're archaic and nonsensical. Demonstrated all the time in tech where everyone copies everyone. It's just everything is so complex relative to knives it's easy for the laymen to not make the conneciton.

B)You use "stolen" IP every ****ing day of your life buddy, the only difference is if it's an American product the thieves had good lawyers, or the victims had bad ones.

There is probably "stolen" code some one has a claim on in this site. Certainly something that was moral theft by your peoples standards.

C) A 7010 is 8 dollars and is not the same size. Not to mention it's numerous other very obvious differences.

No one has this conversation in kitchen knives or clothing for a reason. It's ridiculous. Why would I forgo using an axis lock because some ***hole is sitting on a patent/ Why the **** would I care?

The 7010 is an obvious homage, it's nowhere near a an exact copy of the profile like the ganzos. And again they have so many differences no one in their right mind could claim them as counterfeits.

edit - the fact a bunch of knife users are acting like bean counters talking about how slips of paper entitle IP holders to profits on knives they've never seen is beyond me. The fact I'm even discussing IP law here is insane. Techies have long gotten past this, you'd think most of you would wisen up as well.

It's just some lawyers pissing around for profit, that's it

This isn't the "tech field" or some other sector. This is a knife forum, a hobby of sorts for most of us, and a community to boot. Might want to edit out all that nasty language, this is the family friendly portion of the forum. While you are reviewing the rules you may want to look at how this community feels about your counterfeits. Hint: it is in the rules buddy.

Last, claiming that the owner here has "stolen code" is a nice touch. Really proves your point. Enjoy yourself Mr. 5 posts.

That is an excellent choice! The Delica is a classic and I hear zdp-189 holds an edge forever; it is one steel I regrettably have no experience with. And that British Racing green is down right sexy!

Great choice. It took me a bit to learn how to sharpen Spyderco's ZDP189, as it is very hard. But it's a fantastic steel.

Fantastic choice.

I was going to suggest a hap40 if you were considering a sprint.

I hope it works out well for you!

I think implying that I'm somehow a thief in the night when he sits there doing the same thing is pretty absurd.

"knives have special rules" is not a very convincing argument, apparently special brands have rules

I don't see anyone whine about the SOG lock, which is a blatant axis rip off. Just different enough for their lawyers to call it something else, but morally it's the same. Pretty sure Lionsteel does the same thing.

Of course it's ok when they do it, because they paid lawyers to make sure it was different ENOUGH, just barely. Now they're Western companies and they do what they have to do, if it wasn't for the lawyers I'd have an American made cheapo axis lock right now. Instead you have to pay a premium because again blood sucking lawyers are involved for no reason

Have you had the arc lock (what you called the SOG lock, when in fact SOG uses a bunch of different locks, accuracy as it turns ouw when discussing things is important) apart and looked at it? Very different from the Axis lock. What is not different at all (except in pot metal materials) is your knock of Ganzo Axis lock.

What norms apply to different hobbies or industries should be discussed in those forums dedicated to those subjects. Here we discuss knives. You want to support that counterfeit garbage? Go for it. The community will be here to tell you how wrong you are. Take care buddy

I wouldn't know, I don't buy dishonst knockoffs

I have seen that SOG lock because one of my good friends owns one

And it is the same, they just added a little piece of metal that gets pushed by a pin, instead of the pin alone holding the blade in place. Making it more expensive, but functionally the same

Is this really so difficult for you to understand?

edit - and he wouldn't know what he hell an axis lock is so it's not his fault. You people know though, well apparently some of you don't lol

You don't buy dishonest knock offs? Just the Ganzo counterfeit of a BM axis lock right?

Is this really so difficult for you to understand?

And you can't even call the lock the correct name and nor do you know how it works. But do tell us more. You haven't derailed this thread enough yet :)

Obviously this is text, and sarcasm isn't always going to translate

But really/

edit - how could you possibly think I thought that when I just spent all that time explaining to you why IP is pointless?

That would be the pot calling the kettle black, jesus called it hypocrisy. When you "steal" in every other facet of your lives (and some of you in knives too obviously) yet have the gall to throw stones

Discuss the knives. Not each other.

State your case without getting in the other guy's face about it.

Congrats on the choice, I carry Benchmade mostly but in every jean pocket I have a Spyderco H1 Lady bug, tough to beat, handles most everything.

Fingers crossed that the sharpmaker will do it justice

For a microbevel, it will do fine. Just takes a few extra swipes. But for reprofiling or a full sharpening you'll need something coarser and faster, such as diamonds.

Congrats on the choice also, if you can take some user pics, we love that here.

Great choice. ZDP-189 is harder to sharpen than other steels. Diamond stones are your friend so I would get some for your Sharpmaker. ZDP-189 will hold an edge for a long time unless cutting something very abrasive.

Oh I have the diamond rods and the UF rods for my Sharpmaker. Now I am wondering if I will need the diamond rods from the get go or just stick to the factory grind and polish it as needed..
