Looking for a camp stove

If you ever plan on taking it on a backpaking trip, maybe you could look into Primus Multifuel or better yet, Omnifuel. They run on anything you could think of (gas, diesel, auto gas, kerosene, LPG, etc), just need to change nipples and clean them up every once in a while so it doesn't clog.

If you want it just for car camping, a dual burner model from any brand will do the trick.

+50 (or so) on the Coleman. I have one that's over thirty years old, and has seen a lot of use. Never had to replace a part in all that time.

Just put some fuel (Coleman, for me) in, pump 'er up and you're cooking. Good controls for heat on both burners, and a tank full of fuel lasts a long time.

Unless you're the size of Sasquatch, you're not going to carry it backpacking, but if you have a vehicle for transportation, it has to be just about the best bang — or burn — for the buck IMHO.

I have been looking at the Coleman stoves a lot lately. The problem is, all the folks that love and recommend them have older models. Construction on the new models is really cheap.

Does anyone make a new stove built like the old Coleman stoves?

Hey chewie, I picked up a newer 2burner coleman last year so I can leave it up at the acreage as a spare and I have had no problems with it.
yes the metal is thinner than the older ones but they are servicable. No company is going to put that much steel in a portable camp stove....EXCEPT the ridiculously priced brunton range link from the op. That one will fit the sturdiness factor as well as stealing precious camping beer funds.

You could run a search on ebay. I have found a couple dealers on there who sell vintage and older camp stoves, and the colemans are very available. If you got one which needed parts, all the parts and rebuild information are easily available as well.

BBQ,
Try looking at the 2-burner coleman propane stove. $48.00 at walmart. I've been using a white gas model for the past 25 years. Finally crapped out, so I'm replacing it with a propane model. Easier for the wife and kids to operate and less dangerous than liquid fuel. There is a bulk tank adapter for use with the 20 lb. tanks from your gas grill. Coleman also makes a single burner propane for $21.00. I have all manner of stoves from Titanium Giga to MSR Wisperlight to wood burners. The propane models are the cheapest to own and run for family campground and tailgate use. Trust me on this one.

Another vote for the coleman propane stoves. The folding ones are great for car camping because they close up and help keep the mess inside and the burners protected.

Don't worry about getting something that you can use as a backpacking stove - if you go that route, you're better off getting a separate stove anyway. Right tool for the job. Car camping is all about bringing lots of conveniences along and cooking proper meals. Don't worry about boiling water for mountain house meals unless you're carrying your gear on your back.

Start hitting the thrift stores and yard sales.

I have at least three stoves and just picked up another 1 mantle lantern yesterday. I quit picking up stoves because I figured I had enough. (I know crazy huh ) The stoves can usually be found for less then $20 and lots of them are in really good condition.

No sense in spending a lot of money for what you want. I have a coleman and Kangaroo, both work good. I was at a Asin food import store and they had some propane stoves cheap, that looked real good.

another nod for coleman!! best stove for the $. easily found at yard sales for around $5 and often less. easy to tune up if its been sitting. will last ya forever

I'll agree that you can't go wrong with the coleman stoves. Dual fuel/white gas/propane, I've had great luck with all of them.

Coleman all the way! I have a 2 burner propane for emegency power outages and another for car camp kitchen. I have a dual fuel that sees very little use nowadays but works perfect after being in the family 3 generations.

I'll definitely keep my eyes open at yard sales and thrift stores, maybe I can pick up an older model.

Brad, thanks for you input as well, I will give the new Coleman's a chance as well, based on the positive input from the BF members. Maybe I can make a hybrid with new burners and older structural parts...

Tailgating and car camping, Coleman all the way!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more! best there is. There is nothing like waking up on a cold morning and firing up a coleman stove. The roar, the great odor of the gas burning, the ROAR!:thumbup:

That roar is the sound of camp coffee (aka: life giving fluid) and bacon in my morning future while outdoors.;)

Coleman FTW. Check garage sales/thrift stores/craigslist. I picked one up off of CL for 15 bucks. Works like a charm.
