I need a new car and with my recent tax return I have decided to get one. Not sure if this is the correct place for this thread.

Anyway, I'm looking to buy a used 4 door sedan with either a V6 or a V8. 0 - 60 must be 5 seconds or less. Vehicle should handle well and have good suspension.

What's your budget and climate?

I can't help too much 'cause I'd never buy a sedan, but I'm impressed by the new Ford Fusion. They look decent and the interiors are really nicely laid out.

If I had a new monster-sized tax return, I'd get a new F250. Bright red, crew cab, 4WD, V8... It's everything you're looking for, at least as far as number of doors and engine size. :D

If, under threat of death, I had to buy a non-convertible, it would be the Infinity Q60 coupe. Or one of the older G35 or G37 coupes.

Have fun shopping!

Gonna have to spend some $$$$ to get that kind of speed. For a "bargain" choice, maybe look at a Subaru WRX (4cyl turbo). For more money, look at BMW M3 or Audi S4. For an American V8, try a Dodge Charger.

0-60, 2.8 seconds. Bargain-priced too.

0-60, 2.7 seconds. And even less expensive.

I believe that your 0-60 requirements along with a $40K budget for a 4 door sedan will narrow your choices. However, I think you will be able to find a used car that fits all the parameters. A friend of mine just purchased a certified pre-owned Chevrolet SS. Fast, big & comfortable. I don't like the fact it's only RWD though. What I do like, especially for Chicago, is that it warns you of speed & red light cameras! I have never seen that before, not in a Benz, Audi or Bimmer.

My 3 favorite V8 sedans are the Charger R/T or SRT, Pontiac G8, and the Lexus IS-F. The IS-F would be my first choice if it's in the budget. They're phenomenal, IMO. One drive and I was hooked.

I drive the first gen. CTS-V. I think your best bet right now is easily the Dodge Charger. I wanted a G8, that is until GM pulled the rug out from under Pontiac. I understood that Chevrolet was going to eventually get a Caprice derived from the G8 but I don't know if that came to pass. Just remembered another option might be the Taurus SHO. I've been an SHO fan for a long time and I've owned 3 of the older versions. I didn't consider the newer version because it was beyond my price range, but there are more of them available used now.

You could find a very low mileage 2010 BMW M5 for that price. Hits all of the points you want. I'll also second the 4-door M3.

With your budget and specifications, you're almost forcing yourself into a German car. You could get a Cadillac, but it won't be anywhere near the refinement of a German car (a unanimously agreed upon opinion of testers worldwide). Plus, the Caddy will depreciate into a rattly squeaky pile of rubble once it ticks over 50k miles (also unanimously agreed upon).

Just buy the minivan.

Lol. I've driven in Virginia, and with that sprawl and congestion my first priority would be comfort and toys/features. 'Cause driving in Virginia, you're going to be sitting in that car for hours, stopped. 0-60 in five seconds... just in time to brake for the next stoplight. :grumpy:

And AWD for frozen winter driving would be my second priority.

Lincoln. :D
