Looking for recommendations for a sub $50 carbon blade stockman knife or similar traditional folder. Whatcha got?

The "thousand word" response. :D

Very nice. I looked at case knives but when I read Chrome Vanadium I figured it meant stainless. Hey you learn something new everyday. Appreciate it fellas. Looks like I found what I was looking for.

my only Stockman so far, Winchester.

The 18 pattern stockman is one of the best from what i tried so far. Hollow grind, pinchable sheepsfoot, very good.

I have a large CV Stockman in my pocket right now. I didn't think I would like the three blade pattern, but I must say it's my favorite knife right now. Pick up a Case, I don't think you can beat it for the price.

You have various options.
You may be able to get a 1095 Queen stockman (or Winchester...with a bit of extra luck).
Boker offers nice options, just like Case in CV.
Old Schrade USA knives are not too hard to find.
Colt currently produces a carbon steel stockman that gets good reviews (see the Rough Rider thread).
Anyway...make sure you post pictures when you get your knife ;)

My choice now is between the Case medium size and large size stockman in dark red bone. Ah decisions, decisions.... Insight please? Easy of carry vs blade size and usefulness.... Can't get both right now [emoji22]

Well, the medium is nice but I find it a bit small in hand, and I don'thave big hands. Go to a store with Case knives, something like Forest & River has a good selection to get in hand. The big fishing and out doors store should have some in stock. Make sure you see what Case you buy in person to see that the fit and finish is good, I bought mine online and the springs are so mushy that I don't even use it. Check for blade rubbing, spring strength, gaps in between the springs and liners. Don't be afraid to ask to see another in hand, they don't come in sealed packages and you will be buying one so the sales person should be more than happy to help.

I don't have small hands but I find my large Case stockman is larger than I like. I carry traditional folders for convenience, I don't need them that large.

Case 3318 medium Stockman cv 3 5/8' closed nice knife takes a great patina less than $50 can't beat it IMO for the money.
