Looking for a chuck that costs less than my drill press.

I purchased a new Harbor Freight 12 speed drill press last year, and after the usual tweaking and setup required of Chinese machine tools, it is working better than I'd ever hoped. Even the chuck on it is well centered and secure.

There is one problem though. The chuck that came with it only goes down to a hair over 1/8", and I need to drill lots of 1/8", 1/16", and 3/32" holes for some upcoming projects.

So, in looking around for a chuck that can hold 1/16" bits, most of them cost more, usually several times as much, as the drill press did.

Can anyone recommend a chuck that comes with a matched MT2 taper, handles 1/16" to 3/8" bits, and costs less than $130 shipped? Tall order, I know.

OH and use the code LVHVS for free shipping till the end of the month.

I picked one of these up a couple years ago and love it. Item #152678 on Woodcraft.com It goes down to 1/32", up to 1/2" and is keyless. Be aware the shank that comes with it is for a lathe and doesn't have the blade on it for the wedge that goes through the drill press arbor to push on for removing it. So chang the shank or insert a bolt and cut off the head about 5/16 beyond the shank end.

I'll try again to post, forum seem to be having a lot of probs for me atm.

I highly recommend Glacern Machine Tools. They offer Albrecht style keyless chucks for CAT40, NT40, R8, MT2 and MT3. I've got one on my Bridgeport clone in R8 and it's very nice and accurate. They have minimum TIRs listed for the lager tapers, and pretty high QC.

$89 for the MT taper chucks, probably the best you can buy besides the higher accuracy Jacobs or Albrecht chucks.
