Can anyone recommend a cost effective fixed blade, in A2 or another good hard steel, that's under $150?

I'm looking for something I can beat on, without worrying about ruining an expensive knife.

Something strictly for field work; hunting, fishing & backpacking?

Thanks for any advice

brkt knives are nice no doubt, for the use you describe why don't you broaden your field a little and give a good 1095 steel a chance. try an ontario rat in either D2 or 1095 good bang for the buck.

You are looking for a Bark River.

Plenty of styles and handles to choose from. Have fun!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll check out Bark River further as well as some 1095 steel fixed blades.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet, let me suggest a Bark River. :D

Bark Rivers are a good suggestion, but I feel they're just too nice to beat up. I would check out Fallkniven instead. My F1 was well under $150, and I don't mind beating up on mine too much.

Bark Rivers are nice looking, but are made to work. Get one with a plain Jane micarta handle instead of something fancier and you won't be too afraid to work it hard.
